Manchester United have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the signing of Argentina international Sergio Romero on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old former Sampdoria keeper worked with United boss Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar and will provide competition for Spanish stopper David de Gea, should the latter remain at Old Trafford.
Victor Valdes is set to be sold after refusing to play in the reserves last season while Sam Johnstone represents another option between the sticks.
Romero told United's official website: "I am absolutely delighted to join Manchester United. To play for the biggest club in the world is a dream come true for me. Louis van Gaal is a fantastic manager and I cannot wait to get started on this new and exciting challenge in my career."

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has hailed Angel Di Maria as an "amazing player" that can help the club win the Champions League.

Di Maria has not joined up with his Manchester United team-mates in the United States as he prepares to complete a move to the French champions, for a reported £46.5million.
Louis van Gaal has suggested the Argentina winger is exactly the sort of player United need to compete in the Champions League, but instead the 27-year-old can help PSG realise their own European ambitions, according to Luiz.
"For us it is always very good if we can sign a fantastic player like Di Maria," the former Chelsea defender.
"I love him, he is my friend. I played with him at Benfica, when we were young.

FIFA boss Sepp Blatter deserves a Nobel Prize, according to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

"I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition,” Putin said in an interview on Swiss broadcaster RTS.
"If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it's those people."

 

Manchester United's Angel Di Maria is set to have a medical in the next 24 hours before a proposed move to Paris St-Germain.
The winger, a British record £59.7m signing last summer, is expected in Doha on Sunday to meet PSG officials.
The fee for the 27-year-old Argentina international is believed to be about £44.5m.

Jose Mourinho was critical of the weather and the Wembley pitch after "the best team" Chelsea lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

The defeat in the season's curtain-raiser represents the first time Mourinho has tasted defeat at the hands of long-term nemesis Arsene Wenger in 14 games, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scoring the game's only goal.
Mourinho believes his Chelsea side was "the best team" despite the defeat, which saw Chelsea enjoy 14 shots to Arsenal's 11, a comparison which becomes two to five in the Gunners' favour when looking solely at attempts on target.
The Portuguese was also quick to criticise the state of the Wembley pitch, as well as the weather, for the defeat.

 

Being a huge football fan myself I'd love to chat with you guys here.
I follow multiple teams but my first teams are Arsenal and Real Madrid.
I've been a Madrid fan for 15 years now, ever since I saw Casillas play as a little girl. It was very hard for me to see him go this summer.

I've been to the Santiago Bernabeu for 8 matches over the past two years. It's my favorite place to be.
It's not cheap for me seeing how I live in Holland but I try to fly in whenever I have the money for it.
Usually I have a seat on the second row right in the middle of the pitch.

I've watched football all my life, ever since I was six years old and I watch as much as I can. Italian football, English football, Spanish, French and I love watching CL and Europa League.
Oh on a side note: I'm stoked that Di Maria is coming to PSG. He was being totally wasted at United, and I'm sure he will fit in great with PSG.
They will probably sell Lavezzi though, seeing how he's a bit overrated.

I definitely feel the same way about the treatment of Casillas.

It will be interesting to see how Di Maria will do in PSG. At one point Zlatan said he could play for ManU but I doubt he could get along with van Gaal.

As a Finn I wonder if you liked Litmanen?

Oh god did I like Jari Litmanen? He was like one of my childhood heroes! I loved him!
He was such an amazing player! The whole Ajax team was brilliant back in the day, guys like Bergkamp ( my all time favorite Dutch player ), Overmars, Finidi George and others made it into such a magical time to be young and watch football.

Van der Wiel can go to United if he wants, I always felt like he's incredibly overrated, a whiny guy, who's always injured somewhere and not that great of a right back. I love Maxwell as a left back. He and Zlatan play so well together, thanks to their years of playing together for the same teams and their teamwork is brilliant.

At Real my favorite players are Modric, Marcelo and Kroos. Casillas was my favorite but he's gone now.
And yes Ronaldo isn't on my list, not because he's not a great player but because I'm not a fan of his personality. My favorite players are the guys who are nice in person and on the pitch. But I have to say that I also love Pepe.
He's the best defender Real has, ten times better than Ramos who at 29 years of age still makes the same stupid mistakes me made when he first started playing at Real. His mistakes cost us so many victories last year its unbelievable he has the nerve to ask for more money.

Pepe still gets lots of hate for his previous bad behavior, but ever since Mourinho left he's calmed down a lot and has behaved a hell of a lot better then Ramos has.
And he's so nice in person, he greeted me a couple of times during the warming up when I was in the stadium, he even handed me his training jersey. He and Marcelo always make a show out of the warming up, they wave to the fans, give their stuff away and entertain them to the max.
They are such nice guys.

Ronaldo isn't a bad person but he's not the type of guy I like. Despite being a Real fan I do love Messi. In my opinion he's just a tad more natural and better than Ronaldo is.
Most frustrating thing about being a female Real fan is that everyone thinks you became a fan because of Ronaldo, that you only watch the games because of him and that you know nothing about tactics or other players.
I'm not attracted to Ronaldo, I don't like him and I was a fan long before he came along at my team.

I grew up in the Casillas, Guti, Raul, Zidane and Roberto Carlos era and I loved every minute of it.

I never believe Zlatan would go to United, he can't stand van Gaal, ( its in his book ) and I just don't see him playing there. He should stay put at PSG and move to the States next year.
I'm sure Di Maria will do great at PSG, their tactics aline a lot better with his style of play.

 

Zlatan might want to go back to AC Milan. He has talked alot about that, we´ll see.

Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he may well have played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain and will make a decision on his future next week.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a return to AC Milan all summer and Galatasaray are also reportedly very keen on landing him.
Ibrahimovic still has one year left on his PSG contract, but after the 2-0 French Super Cup win over Lyon over the weekend he admitted his time in the French capital could be over.
"It could be that this was my last game for PSG," he said. "Next week I will take a decision over my future."

Zlatan has won the goal scorer of the year price almost everywhere he has played. Wonder what next?

 

Yeah AC Milan suits him a lot better then some American team in my opinion. But I doubt he will leave this summer.
I think Ibra is happy where he is right now and doesn't mind being the star of the team.
If he goes it will benefit Cavani a lot, he's really not able to achieve his normal standard thanks to Zlatan.
Whenever Zlatan is injured and Cavani plays he usually scores a lot more.

Greetings from a Dinamo Zagreb fan! Football/Soccer is a very popular game in my country but it is constantly being destroyed after the breakdown of Yugoslavia. In Yugoslavia we had a law which did not allow players younger than 28 to play outside the country. That's why Yugoslav Football League was good. Today we have one club with a lot of money (Dinamo) which is the champion for 10 years in a row and will continue to win. Other clubs are selling all their good players to Dinamo just to survive. Dinamo then sells them to Europe clubs and is earning millions of euros. It's pretty sad what the capitalism brought us to football.

Even here in Germany, with the clubs who can buy the players from Croatia, i don't see the advantage of buying players from everywhere. Even as a supporter of a club, you hardly know your actual players anymore, they change all the time.
There are always the same clubs in the CL, and the top 10 clubs are this good, that even german upper class teams can loose games 0:5 or higher.

Things were better with the limitation of foreign players.

 

Exactly! Players play football just because of the large ammount of money they are paid. There's no passion for the game anymore, just the passion for money.

Interesting to see the WC for the summer. It could be the last chance for Messi. Germany is as powerful as usual. Belgium is the black Horse as they have the best players in Europe.

 

I really want Leo to go all the way and win it. Maybe Argentina and Belgium in the final.

 

Messi seems not at all happy with Barcelona changes. But I don´t believe he will leave the club either. Next summer he is free to go wherever he wants to though.
