    North Korea claims nuclear test

It said the underground test, carried out in defiance of international warnings, was a success and had not resulted in any leak of radiation.

The US said intelligence had detected a seismic event at a suspected test site and Russia said it was "100% certain" a nuclear test had occurred.

    Excellent!

I would agree with Richard that NK is a liar or should I say kim jong il. ( I think thats how you spell it ) But I would say that its no surprise, everyone already knew that NK had a bomb. I personally believe that the reason the test was conducted was because of GEORGE BUSH. Now that NK has the bomb it wont be attacked.

I just feel real sorry for the poor people that have to live under his rule.

I find it interesting on this forum the low post rate on this topic and on other forums it’s very active topic, granted I read a lot of panic posts and let’s get stuck in ones as well.

    Just an observation. ;)

I heard the other day that George Bush caused the earthquake in Hawaii. Before that he somehow conjured up a hurricane in the Gulf. He's somethin else.

    So let's discuss.

What would be the alternative to the United States' tough, almost combative stance concerning North Korea? Ignore it just like we basically ignore Chavez?

I don't even think we do it for ourselves, the US gov I mean. We do it for the Japanese, the Taiwanese, the Filipinos.

The reason we don't take a tough stance on Chavez is because we realize that he's full of you know what and none of the other Latin leaders take him seriously, except for Fidel of course.

We, and most other nations, realize that Kim is dangerous. Pathetic yes, but still very dangerous. The pressure has to be kept on him. Remember, he's very very lonely.

Yes, Kim is dangerous but Kim knows that if he ever launches and attack ( nuclear ) he's going to be dealing with China and Russia.

Oh and im not defending him at all, I think Kim is a nut.

Yes, China is the only ally that Korea has after China probably Russia but even they dont want Korea to have a bomb. Especially considering that Korea tested the bomb 130 miles from Russia's border.

But yes most likely China and Russia are for the most part Apathetic, afterall korea posses no threat to them they know it.......So does North Korea.

Recently an American reporter of Asian decent, visited North Korea.
She came back with astounding news. The North Korean people believe they are at war with the US.
They believe that the sacrifices they are making are for the war effort.
They have NO... Cell-Phones, Internet, TV (outside of government propaganda), cable/world.
It is reminesent of WW 2 Japan, the people know "Squat" about what is outside of their "Micro"/"Retro" world.
Proof Positive as to what "1" Despot (put in/took over power because of FEAR) can do to an entire population.
Not a problem for any/every one else until his missiles/bombs.
I see history repeating itself, yet again.
A deliberate "Cut-Off" (censorship) from information is not advantageous/beneficial to the general populace, only to the ones who seek CONTROL. Be that business or world...
and it is the PEOPLE who pay for this shortsighted greed, of the tiny minority.
I have no answers as to how to get through to the general populace, but once done, I've no doubt that Kim Jung Il will have "numbered" days.
Which is why he try's so hard to isolate his domain.
Perhaps those people could take a lesson from France, and bring back that head chopper thing. I think they've heard enough "Let them eat cake"!

Skunk works I believe I saw that episode on Fox News. If im not mistaken the young lady was from vietnam and she snuck in with a doctor pretending to be his assistant. They were then followed everywhere they went.

I feel really bad for the people that live in such a regime. I hope thing change for them.

They have the bomb, but they don't have food [IMG]
And they wouldn't let anyone help them. A big portion of the children can not grow up healty because of hunger.

All of this Military threatening should have taken place 20 years ago, when the USA had a decent military and were no knee deep in VietNam II.

Now evry tin pot despot can see how ineffective the USA are, and how incompetent their diplomacy is, and will use evry possible means to blackmail the world when they need political points.
