    Strategy Games:

Well, if you enjoy strategy there is only Hearts of Iron and Strategic Command at the moment. First is realtime (although pausable, so nothing like your average WarCraft) based and packed with details, second is turn based and a lot simpler.

At the operational level we have The Operational Art of War, my personal favourite. Great detail and a very versatile editor that means users have produced scenarios ranging from the Punic Wars to near future. Turn based (variable 6 hours to 1 week) with hexes (variable 2.5 to 50 km scale), units can range from companies to divisions, corps and armies. Most equipment from cavalry to F-22 fighters are included with individual stats.

At the tactical level there is Combat Mission and Steel Panthers that are worth looking at, both great games.

    Tank Games:

As for tank games, do you mean simulators? There is only one WWII tank simulator worth getting, which is Panzer Elite, newly rereleased.

ww2buff, I highly recommend you look at HPS Simulation's product line if you are interested in strategy based war games.

I play the Panzer Campaigns and Napoleonic series and have a great time with them. As far as games go they are very historically accurate and force you to deal with the same problems that the actual commanders faced. - James

One that I have always liked is: Eastern Front by: Talonsoft.

You have tank action, Inf and Arty action. When I fought the Russians--then germans never lost a skirmish--let alone a full battle. :)
