I want to give the community a heads up.

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and Silent Hunter 3 have both gone gold.

BiA is available in Xbox currently and will be available for PC and PS2 on 15 March.

SH3 will be available on PC-DVD on or about 15 March.

    :D :D :D :D :D

I have been following the developement for both of these titles since last year.

The BiA videos are very cool!

On the official site for SH3, they have been releasing some very nice tutorial videos. The navigation tutorial knocked my socks off! I couldn't believe my eyes....SEAGULLS!! SEAGULLS flying!! Now that is SA-WEET.... They released the tutorial vid for the flak guns today... [IMG]

Saw another vid of nurses tossing bouquets of roses at the departing u-boat...I need to search for that site where this vid is posted.

It does look like being a great game (SH3 that is), I have followed the series quite closely, I liked destroyer commander too even if it crashed just as I arrived in Archangel!

Just watched one of the in game videos, WOW!!! Can't wait for the one to hit the shops!

Have to agree, I can't wait for this one to hit the street. Haven't checked the page for a while, so I'm currently downloading a few clips to check the latest and greatest stuff.

Dunno about the other game...seems similar to many other shooters which we already get dozens and dozens of...zzzzz...

I know what you mean about the shooters that are coming out, they are just more of the same. I am growing tired of the linear shooters (MOH and so on) I prefer the more tactical ones which give you a smaller map but much more freedom within its confines.

As for SH3, I always thought submarine games on PC were a great idea. I mean think about it in terms of vision. In an aircraft you can look around, you have peripheral vision and so on, same goes for first person shooters. there is no way to replicate this on a pc. In a submarine however, except for when you are on deck, you see the inside of the sub and the eye pieces of the periscope. Far more effectively rendered on a pc.

@Stefan and Heartland...You apparently haven't read much about BiA. This "shooter" is not like anything you have ever played before. This game allows you to actually command two different squads using WW2 "fire and manuever" tactics while engaging the German AI which is also using "fire and manuever" tactics. This is feature has never been implemented in a game before. And from the preliminary reviews from those playing it on XBox, the developers have made a superb game. It also has replayability since the same battle is never fought the same way twice.

The game is a tactical game with small maps and freedom to move about. It is not a linear "corridor"-type of shoote at all.

And with BiA, the days of the Rambo-style attacks will get you killed immediately. Plus the fact that there are no health packs or medics add to the challenge...essentially, you get shot once or twice you go down! I also hear that in the hardest or "authentic" mode, you will have your hands full in a firefight.

I totally agree on this, and is also noticable on flight sims. A while back I was playing Il-2 and Lock-On during the same day - and while I actually prefer WWII aircraft to a modern setting, the modern stuff is actually easier to play. This as it relies less on using you own set of eyes and more on sensors and instruments, with instruments being much more easily handled on a computer!

Sub sims are great in this regard. Loved "Silent Service" and "Red Storm Rising" on my old C-64... :D

    *ding* Correct! :D

Actually, after reading a few of the reviews for the Xbox version, I'm prepared to revise my opinion to a more positive note...it actually doesn't sound bad at all!

Various features such as the ability to supress enemy positions seem pretty well designed, so I'm going to keep an eye on this one as well.

    Buuuuu!

Just found out that Silent Hunter III is locked to 1024x768 resolution...very bad news for those of us with a 19" TFT flat-screen that uses 1280x1024. This means blurred graphics and probably headache after playing a while. Plus it uses Starforce copy-protection, the software love-child of Bin-Ladin and Satan!

So it actually looks like I won't be able to play this game, even though I would have simply loved forking over the cash to the developers... :(

I've played quite a bit of SH3 now, and am very impressed by it overall - a modern classic for sure. I used an old thread in the North Atlantic part of this forum to post some screenies and further comments if you want to check them out...

SH3 is the greatest subsim but watch out in 2007 SH4 is on its way its looks like a updated version of the original game. [IMG]

Indeed, it is good news that SH3 sold good enough to warrant a successor. From what I have seen of sales figures it didn't do too well, which on the other hand isn't surprising considering the realism and depth (ha ha) of the sim. SH3 is one of few outstanding games from last year, and one that is sure to become a remembered as classic.

SH4 will apparently return to the Pacific and the US Gato subs! Not as interesting as a Type VII in the north Atlantic for me personally, but will surely pick it up anyway, if the quality stays the same.
