    Maybe something easy...

What was the main Finnish defence line called in the Karelian isthmus?

In what years, the German submarines managed to sink more GRT than could be rebuilt?

My question is to be interpreted as ALL years, and no others... in this meaning, according to my sources none of you 2 has given the right answer yet. But maybe there are differing figures; if so, please add some source and details.

Unfortunately, it's not even possible to give a reasonable hint... as you all have realized, it's a series of subsequent years, and it's more than one.

Ah well, my question applies to British and American shipbuilding only, even though I am not sure whether Russian and other production would turn the tables in any of the years. It's possible.

Judging from your question and further clarification, the answer is none. The Allies rebuilt all their losses and actually added tonnage overall.

I disagree. According to my figures, the German sinkings / Anglo-American rebuildings were as follows (in GRT):

    1939: 0,8 / 0,3
    1940: 4,4 / 1,2
    1941: 4,4 / 2,0
    1942: 8,2 / 7,2
    1943: 3,6 / 14,6
    1944: 1,4 / 13,3
    1945: 0,5 / 3,8

The booming American war economy turned the tables, but extraordinary U-boat successes in 1942 were still an edge ahead. Thus the right answer to my question is 1939-42.

The definitely best guess was from Leitung Panzer, so over to you. [IMG]

Ok bear with me >Board newbie< my question will probably suck.

So anyway, here it goes: What were the 5 u-boats to participate in the first leg of Operation PAUKENSCHLAG and how many ships did they sink during the operation? [Combined]

Actually this is a very good question, the number of sinkings is not easy to research. However, the time interval is not exactly clear. Do you ask how many ships they sank until more U-boats arrived?

    The 5 U-boats were U-66, U-109, U-123, U-125 and U-130, and my guess is that they sank 26 ships.

That's right, over to you Knight. And yes, the question was how many ships were sunk up untill the point the first 5 headed back to port.

    Thx LP. New question:

This American lady was the only person to do this very same thing twice, in an interval of slightly more than 24 years. She was one of several the first time, but alone when she repeated her action.

What was her name, and what did she do?

Hint: She was a politician, and she was pacifist. What did the USA do twice in an interval of 24 years?
