Nope, A give-away clue... Comandante of the Squadriglia acrobatica who flew Fiat CR 32s in 1937. He was a Maggiore (Major), at that time. He did it in secret (wasn't supposed to), by his friendships with General Valle (commander of Italian Air Force) and General Flieger Erhard Milch made it possible to arrange in the utmost secrecy.
Cheers. I really must read more about the Italian Air Force. Where did that nugget come from? Q: Two Malaysian brothers flew and one died flying for the RAF during the war. Both flew in Fighter Command. Who were they?
Clue: One claimed 2 kills, one shared, and one damaged. Flew Spitfires and then Mustangs. DFC and bar The other flew Typhoons, and was killed July 44.
I believe Pro_Consul got it. Didn't know about them until know (after I knew) Interesting read, about how the family who buried the brother and the brothers family still stay in touch many years on. Kinda restores faith. I liked the Karma part when the older brother got rousted for ID for wearing the uniform, and after "ID" was established, made the goon stand at attention in front of a superior officer. He He
Thanks, Amrit. This one should be relatively easy, I think. But maybe not. Not sure how well this little story got about: What brigade commander once chose to ride a girl's bicycle in order to inspect his troops' position?
Nope. Urquhart was a division commander when he was operating in the Netherlands. But you're on the right track.
Nope. But still on track. Clue #2: He was neither British nor American, but he was part of the Allies. P.S. Sorry for delay. My puter blew up and I just now got the new mobo in it and working.
OK, apparently this story was too obscure. Final (hopefully) hint: He commanded an airborne brigade at the time of the bicycle episode in the Netherlands. Anyone who can't get this now gets 20 lashes with a piece of boneless spaghetti.
You got it, Skunk Works. During the period when his brigade was stuck on the south side of the river by the missing ferry his scout were all out on the bicycles they had dropped with so Gen. Sosabowski borrowed a girl's bicycle to get him around while he scouted the eastern perimeter facing the area at the south side of the bridge. He was still getting around on that bicycle when a British scout group from XXX Corps managed to get past the Germans in an armored car and reached his brigade. Over to you. P.S. Sorry for the delay again. The new mobo didn't work out at all so I had to borrow a friend's computer to get on and fulfill my duty here. Going into lurk mode until I am 100% back up again.
cool What ship was known as the ghost of the enemy coast ? Lost March 2nd 1942, stricken from the register March 25th 1942. Seen numerous times by submarine & airplane after that. Found October 15th 1945, put back on the register October 29th 1945. New name, the other had been given to a new ship.
