Came across a picture (I can't remember where?) of this sign with the following message. "Es ist Verboten mit Gefangenen in Einzelhaft zu Sprechen!" "It is Forbidden to speak to Prisoners in Solitary Confinement!" Don't know why but, it struck me as somehting funny. Perhapse because of my past as someone who was in Law Enforcement?
All right, so you guys speak many languages of languages. Deutsch ist prima für mich, fransösich geht selbverständlich auch. Sloniksp will have to teach Russian though because besides "dawai dawai", I don't understand it.
And in case your wondering? Mein Duetsch ist veri schlecht! Ich aim versuchen Learnen sem. Another thing I can say (whether it is correct or not is) Hande Hoch, Waffen Weg, Kommen ous kameraden bitte?
I've been picking up some German here and there over the years but I would really like to learn it and speak it fluently. I was thinking about buying the Rosetta Stone DVD's and studying it that way. Does anyone know if these things are worth it? They have quite a pricetag.
I heard that those DvDs are worth it. I am hoping to learn more German as well. One of my Brothers bought some to learn Finnish because the company he works for was sending him to some sort of school there for about a year. Another brother got it to learn French and he seems to have learned it rather well.
Excellent. I wasn't sure if those "first hand accounts" of how good it was on the commercial were really first hand. I think at some point I will buy them. Actually now that I think about it I took a free demo online at their website and the system they use is very effective. It's not your usual bland memorization techniques. If I remember right it onvolves multiple choice questions while an ethnic speaker says the words to you and then you pick the photograph of what he is saying. Something along those lines.
Hi Miller, not sure exactly but, if I buy a "language teacher" The Rosetta Stone, will be my first choice. My second choice of course, will be to have as many conversations as I can with my best German friend (in Germany) who is a Kriegsmarine vet who was awarded the D.K.i.G. I guess you can't get any better than that eh?
Carl and I have had this conversation over the phone a couple of times over the years. Get together with ww2 age Germans and they will gladly teach you. Besides my own familie still in Germany I have 3 others - friends - living locally that I call upon to translate a letter or 2 and it is great practice as I try with some ability to read out loud while the friend(s) just smile and then corrects me in a very satisfactory way. good way for a visit and then some kaffee mit Sahne und Kirsch Kuchen which of course cannot be beat. If you are around your "friends" long enough you will even be able to notice a change in accent as northerners and southerners do not talk alike....... hmmmmm imagine that ! If any of you have a German Deli in your region that is also a good place to hang out with them and have a good Deutsche Bier; I'll take a Schneider Weisse bitte !
