Holy mackerel!! Really?!?!?! Thats a great honor, given only to people the Israeli government sees as going "above and beyond" kind of like being named "venerable" in the Catholic church (the 1st step towards Sainthood for those who dont know). Your Great Grandfather would be in good company; Oskar Schindler has been named Righteous among the Nations.
    Congratulations,Thats really fantastic!

Thats too bad, but understandable. I oftentimes wondered how my Uncle stayed in Philadelphia. The winters there are so bad, after Hurtgen and Bastogne, I would have thought he'd move south. Ive seen interviews with veterans who say they hate winter, and cannot stomach the thought of certain foods because of their relation to the war before, but never an aversion to mothers day....Understandable though.

did you have relatives at Oradour sur glane?

This is a wonderful story but why has it ended with no conclusion? Chocapic -- please let us know how the story ends.

    Cheers!

Chocapic stopped posting a half a year ago as he apparently got fed up with some type of postings which apparently were too many for his taste...

Aww. I missed his wry sense of humor. The club he found is pure genius, dry as my martini.

The "Righteous" status is a great honor..Now I may be Incorrect but if granted "Righteous" I believe you are then eligible for citizenship in Israel. If Interested.

    Hello all,

My mother finaly received this letter a few days ago, informing her her Grandfather has been granted the Righteous title. This will be made official during a ceremony, to be organised by Israël nearest diplomatic representation.

I can't say I'm proud of this, because of course, it's other people and other time, but I'm proud of what my Grandfather's father did !!

Also, this Righteous concept is very positive : it shows to us today, that even if doing what a man's got to do is the hard way under pressure of an historical context, even if your leaders and police say that this or that community is free game... human beings are human beings, evil is evil, and good is good, and you'll be judged by people and history overtime.

This forum is rather wonderful for many reasons but this mu must be right at the top. It sure moved my old heart and it is so good to read something like this instead of all the stuff that passes for news on the TV... Nice to see a great story of courageous people unfold here and continue until now.
