I know I should have posted this before the show aired, but did anybody happen to catch the show on the discovery channel on the U.S.S. Indianapolis? It was more about sharks than the Indy, but still very interesting nonetheless.
I too watxhed it last night. It was pretty good for a 1 hr doc. Did you know that there is a movie that was released around 18 or so years ago-which is about the U.S.S. Indianapolis and the tragedy that followed. Its called: Mission of the Shark w/ Stacy Keach and I think Richard Thomas (of John Boy Waltons fame) It's a damn shame that the Captain of the Indy felt so much shame that he shot himself many years after the tragedy.
I missed the docu. but they often re-air, so I wil keep my eyes open for that. I was just reading about Captain McVay. Truly a sad episode in military justice. Read more at link below.. USS Indianapolis CA-35
Zippo which books or articles were you reading? I've always been interested in the Indy, and the only two books I know of on the subject are In Harms Way (Doug Stanton) and Abandon Ship (Richard Newcomb). I'm always looking for new material on the subject, although I fell that Stanton's book is by far the best account of the Indy, but thats just me .
Thanks for the link Zippo. I agree, it is a sad part of our military history. Same goes for the tragedy of the USS Leopoldsville. All I can add to this is: Rest in Peace Admiral McVay. :-((
