Against my better judgement today, i went out and bought Counter Strike Source at the same time i picked up the movie 300. Doubled what i intended on spending, but i need a good online FPS fix. So far, i havent been dissapointed! Played a few maps of each and can say Counter Strike and Day of Defeat are great games! Havent played all that much, and am still newbish to it all (not used to the pace either). I remember playing CS back when it first came out - Half Life (1) was real popular and Team Fortress was the best game out there. Then CS came along. Graphics have come along way since then! Nice details and all. Day of Defeat is pretty cool too with its graphics. Helmets blown off by nades and all.
I still play CS with HL. I can bring myself to peel the dead presidents out of my wallet to get a new version.
The only problem I have with Day of Defeat is that you cant use iron sights and look down your weapon to aim. Other than that its great. However, I still feel that Red Orchestra is the best fps out there.
Not familiar with Red Orchestra - free to download anywhere? And i agree - its annoying not being able to use your iron sites (Garand you can i think) but the graphics etc are pretty good. I still prefer COD but lost the CD Key so cant install it on this PC
You can download Red Orchestra from steam, not for free though. But pay the 20 bucks or whatever it is, its well worth it. Read the reviews on gamespot or just wikipedia, everybody seems to like it. This game is the most realistic that Ive ever come across. Little nuances, for instance with a bolt action rifle, you click to fire, then click again to manipulate the bolt. This is helpful in close quarters when you have the bayonet attatchment, since not operating the bolt can allow you to quickly jab somebody. Each weapon has a realistic recoil, so theres none of this being sniped with an MP 40 buisiness. It really is the ultimate FPS, let me know if you get it and we can play on a server together!
Argh! I hate video games! I think i'm the alcoholic version of video-games...its like an addiction. Surprised i havent seen this before - graphics look great! I assume its free to play once you buy it?
Downloaded it late last night and played a map or two. Takes a bit of getting used to, and the server i found was mostly empty. Was only killed by Inf once on the first map, and thats because i got naded. But after that, i went on a killing spree. Then we played a map called Wateverovka or something...decided to be a sniper...and had good fun with that! I go by the handle of LRDGRat....wanna see if we can play today? Say 1PM EST?
Can't play at 1 but I'll probobly be on later tonight around 9 or 10. I play on servers that are run by FK Mod, simply because I find they have the least amount of lag and the most amount of players. They have 24/7 infantry only maps and tank maps. I'll post the ip later, or you can get if from fkmod.com. I'm usually on the 24/7 Danzig map; theres no armor on it but its a very faced paced infantry server. My screename is Silent_Stalker, or Silent Stalker, can't remeber which one exactly.
Sounds like a plan. I should be able to play around then too. Been playing today and i dont like tanks too much. I'm not bad at Inf either. Server i was on only allowed certain amount per class. Dont know name of map, but it was in a Rail Yard. I was stuck with an MP 41 i think...killed as often as i got killed with it. Found a building and saw a Sniper team mate get killed. So i nabbed me his gun! They must of thought the threat was gone but i got about 5 of them before some one got me from behind (or was glitching or something) - i was looking out of the corner of the window, well back from it, and couldnt see anyone when i died. I must say i think i am a pretty good sniper in buildings. Next map we played was some city...this time i was a Russian and stuck with bolt=action rifle. Didn't do too bad either...got some decent ranged kills. I was thinking about looking for Infantry Only server....guess i'll play one tonight!
