Thought this might be a good spot for warbirds you have seen recently and where to see them. The most recent ones were a Stuka from Maine that flew about 500ft over my head as well as a Storch, couldn't believe the thing only needs 3 plane lengths to get airborne. 2 summers ago a B-17 and a B-24 flew wing to wing over my house while I was cutting the grass. The collings foundation gives rides in the US for about 450 a pop on the B-24 and B-17, they even have an F-4, now that's quite a ride.
had a P-51 about a month ago fly over the house, I was only able to view the tail as he went behind a ridge towards the north ...........probably Portland, OR... yes have had the B-24/and B-17 Collings foundation bombers visit our area many times, and good to hang around the vets as they talk shop and the stories of their missions
I got to walk through a B-17 "Sentimental Journey" last year at an airport on Cape Cod. I hung around to watch it taxi and take off.
In the 80s, there was a P-51 at Barnstable, it flew over my head when I was coming out of Barbie Anne's which had moved and then went out of business. They had great chowder in those days.
I saw the B-17 at Hyannis. In the summer I live in Bourne and have become use to the sound of F-18's and C-130's in the morning, with Otis Airforce Base being so close. Thinking about Cape Cod clam chowder is making me even more damn hungry!
Is there a Marine air contingent at Otis or did you mean F-15? If Air reserve is using F-18s that's news to me.
I'm mistaken, F-15's would be the correct airplane Herr Oberst. Although, there was quite an array of aircraft to wake me up the day of the Otis Air Show!
I didn't know if there was a Marine Air Reserve from Weymouth or Brunswick NAS now both closed. On my way to the bakery last summer saw 4 fighters wing to wing but couldn't make them out other than WWII. Have you been to the Webster show? Vehicles other than planes.
I haven't yet been to the show a Webster, although I do recall hearing about it. Is it at Webster College?
Well not far from where i live is a small airport and they operate several C-47's as sceenic flights, this year i had a Hurcules fly over my home at approxamately 100 feet, and i was at the beach when 6 F-18 hornets were belting along at wave top height.
A few years ago, I had the chance to go through a B-17 and B-24 at the local airport. I climbed through every bit of the planes, gleefully taking pictures. After it was all over, and the planes had left, I realized that the leader had broken on my film and I had nothing. I have never had that opportunity again.
Sorry about that, I've known that feeling before, perhaps a digital camera with extra mem cards for Christmas. Look up Collings Foundation and they have a schedule of Warbird Flights. They have Rides on the B-17, B-24, B-25 and The F-4 Phantom II. They tend to come back to the same spot every 2-3 years.
A Stuka... 87? Awsome. would love to see that. F-18s are loud, I hear them almost every day and 16s several times a day. the C130s are not so bad, the Osprey operates around here and once one came over the house with the props straight up low and slow and about shook the house apart. How do I get a ride in an F4. Saw a U2 the other day, it taxied by our hanger, about 100 fet away, all white and hand a truck escorting it. Very Awsome. P-51 flew in a week ago. C-17 came to drop off some nukes. A couple of Harries came by, no vertical take off though. A B2 did a fly over at a baseball game a couple of years ago, that was cool. The best though was a 4th of July parade, a B1 flew down the street at about 200-300 feet at about the sound barrier. That was awsome, they also had several ehlicopters, f-16s, C130s, and some training planes. But the B1 was awsome. Airplanes are the best.
The B-17, B-24 is about 450US, for the Phantom you might need to make a sizeable donation and special arrangements. The Collings site will give you a schedule when they are in the area, mostly air shows and usually in warm weather. The Stuka is a scale model, like 7/8s of the real mccoy, it live's in Maine.
A P-47 with D-Day stripes is currently flying overhead while keying this message. My office is located just south of the Addison Airport in Addison Texas where the Cavanaugh Flight Museum is located. We see an occasional B-17 as well as other fighters. They fly a number of birds in formations every Independence Day Celebration.
A friend took a ride on the B-17. I keep waiting for them to come back, but its been about ten years. Interestingly, the Stillwater, OK airport was built so that the university could train pilots for the military. When the war was over, it was used as a staging area for the government to sell a bunch of aircraft to scrap dealers. A person looking at the known list of aircraft, would cry to see the rare birds that met their fate from there. They still are finding parts in the dirt around the back areas.
Wow, a year later, time flies(that's a joke son....git it) The Collings Foundation is hosting it's version of Hop Farm this Columbus Day weekend. Enjoy, it is worth checking out.
Saw the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Lancaster fly over my neighborhood yesterday morning. It always brings a smile to my face when I see that beauty soar overhead, its four Rolls-Royce Merlins purring along is like music to my ears. Yet I feel a little saddened by the fact that it is one of only two that can still take to the air. There's also the Russell Aviation Group located just outside of my hometown. They're currently in possession of a Spitfire Mk. IX, Hurricane, Bf-109E4, and a Harvard Mk. II trainer. All airworthy.
