    Hello Donnie,

I'm not sure if your serious because that is a lot of money and I don't know which M1 bayonet you mean (I found a couple),
but I think its a very nice offer but I'm affriad I have to reject. I don't want to sell relics I found myself because of the personal value they have for me...

    With the best regards,

    Nick

I understand your motivation why you want to buy it. But I'm sorry I have to reject the offer.
I think if you look around on ebay you can purchase the same but for less money.

    Good luck,

    Nick

By a twist of fate I'm taking a business trip to Europe next month and will have a 3 day layover in Huertgenwald. As a military history buff I would love to get a couple relics from battle there in order to connect to the past. I'm simple...a couple shell casings or pieces of shrapnel would satisfy me. Is there a good location I could find easy stuff like that? I'm planning on getting a cheap metal detector to help. Is there any depth or setting that would be best? Are there any maps available that would be good for someone exploring the battlefield? I'm reading several books on Huertgen, are there any you guys would recommend? I've never done this before and never will have the chance to do it again so any advice for a novice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Don

I might advise you to go in the woods south of rafelsbrand, or vossenack at the beginning of the Kall trail. If you're just looking for a few cartridges and schrapnel.
But be aware that MD in the Hurtgen area is forbidden, most of the time the foresters will chase you away but they can confiscate all your equipment, car, heavy fines even a trip to the local Polizei is an option.(ps the foresters don't work on sunday)
Cartridges still just lay on the surface there .30 and .50 call. average depth for items like that is between 0 to 8 inches deep.(but it can be deeper such as ammo dumps, 1 or 2Ft)
If you need help, just send a PM with the day's you are there, I'm always up for a hunt.

    Regards,
    Steven

Tomorrow we're off to the Huertgenwald again! Hope we'll have better luck this time... Any tips where to search? Last time we dug next to der "Rote and Weisse Wehe". Does anybody know if there is anything to find near the Rennweg?

    Thanks in advance!

Good luck Tocq, can't help you with those locations but I hope you'll find some nice relics and post them here for us when you return.

Great finds over the years, amazing you can do that, I thought it was wrong to look for things in Europe. I might be thinking of Normandy only, need to get stationed back in Germany to go on some great camping trips like you have 272VGD.

It's against the law to use a metal detector to look for relics and the penalties are very severe should you get caught using one, be it in France, Germany or Belgium.

Nobody has ever 'batted an eyelid' when they have seen me using just eye power alone to look for relics in France and Germany.

You just have to be a little more covert when using a detector.

Can this topic please be closed? I won't post any more updates on this one.
And the replies are boring me again and again...

Everybody wants to know where to find stuff but doesn't do any research themselves and are only bothering me with the questions... through this topic and through PM.
Guys like tocq are ruining the hobby... your car was spotted at the Weisse Wehe last time tocq, and pictures where made by an German forester which I know and the numberplate is given to the police. Its not wise to drive your car miles into nature protected woodland and go camping there and make fire. And you left everthing there on the spot and went searching... how stupid is that.....

This topic now only seems to be used for asking me questions where they can find good stuff etc etc.

So please close it, or I will delete my pictures on photbucket.

This will be the only thing I ever asked here, and looking at my 600+ posts here on the forum that are all good and informative imo... I beg you, please.
