Thought I'd check out this board since it appears there is a fair cross section of interesting topics.

I began my library in the late 1950s and it has grown to over 500 volumes. I began interviewing aces back in the 1980s and have talked to a couple hundred from many countries. I have written a couple hundred articles over time mostly on WW II air combat.

Sadly I have found that too many people on forums like this have an unshakable yet incorrect concept of what air combat was. It certainly had nothing remotely similar to combat flight simulators. Those are fun folks, not real.:D

I will refrain from topics that endlessly wish to compare aircraft and any other weapon or equipment in ridiculous "equal" scenarios about which was better. Tirades of "which was better the 109 or the Spitfire?" are pointless and childish.

If opinions are sought in a topic like "what's your favorite tank?" I'm as happy to offer mine as anyone. I'm simply dog tired of having to defend a casual opinion because someone else has a different favorite and wants to argue.

    I was a recon Marine in-country 69-70.

Welcome. It's a great forum with discussions and information posted on a wide range of WWII topics. Glad you bring some additional expertise to the table. Quite a few on the forum have also been researching WWII air combat.

Ceraphix and chaps- Naw I like "what if" scenarios. It's those dolts that keep up the "which plane, tank or? was better." "Better" is subjective and it's impossible to clinically take complex weapons like tanks, planes or ships and simply compare specs to determine which is "better" in the real world.:)
