Snipes gets the max -- 3 years -- in tax case - CNN.com

Actor Wesley Snipes was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for three misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns -- the maximum requested by federal prosecutors.

Federal prosecutors said the actor for nearly a decade escaped paying more than $15 million in income tax returns by sending money to overseas accounts, though they acknowledged in court that the amount is in dispute.

Before the sentencing, the actor asked the court to show mercy and offered three checks totaling $5 million as a gesture of good will.

Federal prosecutors diverted the checks to the U.S. Treasury -- which accepted the payment -- but it wasn't enough.

"It's essentially a down payment, but a fraction of what he owes," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Scotland Morris.

He'll be in the Martha Stewart suite playing golf within the compound and waiting for contacts for his upcoming new reality show. He will come out and be richer.

I doubt he'll ever see the inside of a cell at all. And I agree if he does it will be a day camp! They will probably slap him on the wrist and tell him to go make a movie so he can pay his tax bill.

They can't get any money from him in the joint.
He'll do a Paris amount of time in "Country-Club" jail, and then they'll let him out to do a movie/TV (and "Garnish" his wages).
Like they did to/for ol Willie Nelson.

    Separate realities for the famous.

    P.S. Vampire movies Suck!

How nice of him to come up with checks worth 5 mil "after" he was caught. Hmmm, 15 years of not paying taxes. I'd probably get nailed the first year.

He'll go to a federal prison camp somewhere for his time. Not real hard to do time in one of those. But, he will do 80% of his sentence as that is what current federal guidelines call for; or about 2 and 1/2 years out of three.

I have contact with federal prisoners here through our church. They tell us they have to do the entire time. If they are sentenced to 60 months, they do 60 months, period.

I agree with Framer, if I'm not on time..."Quarterly"... I hear from them.

He must have a Lousy adviser/consultant/accountant, or count on playing some/many variety(s) of "Trump" card.

The penalty for owing yet filing is .5 % a month
The penalty for owing and not filing 5 % a month

For the math "challenged", or PC (version) stupidity "able"

Pay particular attention to where the decimal point is. See the one which is

    Ten Times Bigger! :D
