If you could remake a WWII movie, what would that film be?

After reading the Worst WWII movie thread, I think it's proper to have such a thread as this. Let's name the movie we want to see remade and suggestions on how it could be improved.

If there was a chance to remake a WWII movie, I'd say the first one on my mind would be the "Battle of the Bulge." As I've said on that thread, the movie mainly suffers because it failed our expectations. I'd have it done in the manner of the what I think is the best WWII movie I saw, which is the "Longest Day."
The next one would be "Battle of Midway." The main change I would prefer would be raising its production values.

    A unique thread, I must say! :D

I would have to go with Enemy at the Gates as well, along with probably Casablanca.

Not re-makes, but movies I would make.

Kurt Student's airborne assault on the fortresses of Eban Emael.

The B-24 raid on the Polesti oil fields.

not related (sorry guys.. but :( ) I would make a movie about The Somme. It would be very dramatic I think. All fresh troops off into a very deadly battle. Power of the machine gun.

But I would remake Battle of the Bulge most definitely! And Midway.

I would probably make a more battle like movie about the battle for Berlin (there is Downfall, but that was more Hitler related and the secretary until like the last 20 minutes of it), and also the siege of Leningrad. In fact, if you could fit a dramatic tale of a average Russian soldier in ww2 in a 2-3 hour film from the start of Barbarossa until ??? it would be great.

I'd slightly change U 571--just so those who hate it could be satisfied. The only thing I would change is when in the credits, that they listed where the R.N. had captured Enigma machines, would be posted at the very beginning of the movie so nobody could gripe about a FICTIONAL movie specifically meant ONLY to be a fictional movie, that was made about the US Navy capturing one of the Germans Enigma machines.

    This is an interesting thread!

    1. Battle of the Bulge
    2. Enemy at the Gates
    3. The Thin Red Line
    4. Pearl Harbor

These all come to mind in no particular order.

Certainly for me it'd be 'Battle Of The Bulge' - with the budget and production values of 'Saving Private Ryan'....

Since you mentioned Saving Private Ryan, you reminded me of a pet dream project of mine, editing the Omaha scenes of that movie and joining it to enhance the Omaha scene of Longest Day. Plus getting some footage of the airborne drops from Band of Brothers and adding them, again, to Longest Day. I also thought of using some attack scenes from Pearl Harbor to supplement Tora Tora Tora.

I just reviewed my copy of Battle of Midway and aside from the misused crash footage, I noticed that attacking Corsairs were also used in the movie. This is really one film that begs to be remade. Now the next question would be the actors that should be cast in such a remake.

I saw it and thought it was very good except that some of the acting was a bit underdone and the sound during the battle sequences could have been more realistic. I also would have shot a bunch of the scenes in the film from different angles (I say this as an ameteur filmmaker). The script of the film, however, was excellent. :)

Good choices. I would also consider a remake of sorts of that 50's move The Enemy Below (I think that's the name) where a US Frigate is stalking a Soviet sub and it ends badly.
A really good cross between that and Das Boote showing the nerve wracking tedium of ASW for surface ships and the sheer terror of being on a sub under attack in one movie would strike home.

The longest day, but with more more technology incorporated in it, I love that move, it is one of the best, and the same goes for A Bridge To Far.

A remake of Iwo Jima without all the hammy stuff in John Wayne's version.

I'd like to make a movie about the often forgotten sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff.

I'd also like to see a movie made (preferably in English) made about the Gustloff tragedy as well.
