Hello all, My name is Brian and I live about 20 miles from Boston. My interests in WWII are somewhat scattered. The best way for me to explain my interest is to say that I love the fact that by studying this one subject one can study just about every type of human social behaviour, economics, science and technology. Hope that doesn't sound to pompous. To be a little more specific I tend to focus on Europe and the eastern front. And to be even more specific, recent topics I've been interested in are life in Berlin near the end, SOE and OSS operations, resistance groups, and the movements and actions of the US Third Infantry Division throughout the war. I have no military background so battle tactics and movements are far and away the hardest topic for me to comprehend. My initial reason for joining is to hopefully get some information about a few family pictures from liberation in the area of Strasburg. http://www.ww2f.com/information-req...out-pictures-strasburg-region.html#post296417
Welcome to the Forums! You will enjoy your time here, I am sure. Are you North, South or West of Boston. I grew up about 15 miles to the North of Boston.
It's the next town over. I never knew about the museum, thanks for telling me about it. From what I'm seeing online it looks like they try to keep their presence somewhat secret. I'll be calling next week to see if I can get an appointment to visit, but from what I'm reading I'm not 100% sure they'll grant me the priviledge as I'm not military, I didn't live through it, and I'm not a historian. Hopefully they respect people who beg for a visit. I'm guessing it's near the Rt 9/ Mass Pike/ Speen St junction http://www.museumofworldwarii.com/index.htm Have you been there? Thanks again.
I've never been there but I am hoping to make a trip to Boston sometime soon and had hoped to visit. Will be interested to hear what you think of it.
Hi Brian. Welcome to the forum from a kind of new member also. Saw your blurb about the 3rd Inf Div and just letting you know that was the outfit I served with from France to wars end as a rifleman. 7th Inf Reg.
Welcome to the Forum, Brian. I was going to refer you to j3rdInf, but see he has introduced himself! I too tend to primarily study the human aspects of the War, however I also find logistics and tactics interesting. I hope you enjoy yourself here.
