I loved it , especially the original version. Bruno Ganz is a great actor he even got Hitler's mimics, speech and shaking etc... The decadent ambiance of the last days in the bunker is very well depicted. The ressemblences are great, Goebbels not so good , but the guy who embodies Speer did a great job. Historicall it is quite stunning. Some scenes are pretty harsch though.

You should definately watch it. It is a very good movie. It is my favorite WW2 movie after Stalingrad 1993.

Loved everything except the ending. Should have stuck to commonly accepted fate of Taudl.

I thought it was a fantastic film, was a bit skeptical before watching it but I'm glad that I did :) Would definitely recommend it!

There's more than one version? I'm not sure which one I've seen then, it did have Bruno Ganz in it though (and I agree, he played the part as Hitler really well).

There´s at least the director version with some 15 minutes extras added. Not very important to the film but nice additions, I think.

Fantastic film and captures the spirit of Berlin in 1945 very well, from the utter helplessness felt by some of the more lucid members of the Fuhrer's staff to the complete lunacy by others. Ironic that the film was made in Leningrad (St Petersburg) as it was felt to have a more "germanic" feel to it. Because large areas of Berlin were rebuilt after the war the producers felt they had to find a different city. Leningrad (st. Petersburg) was built by German architects in the employ of Peter the Great and the producers felt it would provide a more authentic feel.

Ganz is excellent as Hitler and he doesnt ham it up at all. Because he seems more human it adds to the horror, I feel. Well worth having.

It was great. The historical accuracy, visuals, and dialouge, down to the last details, it was an all around a great film. The humanization of Nazis, though controversial I felt was well done and did not go to far.

Downfall is one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. Bruno Gantz IS Hitler. I don't know how he didn't get an Oscar nomination for it.

Rochus Misch (bunker telephone operator and last survivor of the bunker) done interview after interview when the movie came out.
He stated the movie is good, but still has inaccuracies in it, one thing he did mention is that Hitler did not yell as often as portrayed in the movie.

Good movie though, and a keeper.

Recommended aswell is Blindspot, Hitlers secretary DVD, with Traudl Junge, just interview with her on dvd but great insight aswell.

    Cheers

    Herr

Also watch "Death in the Bunker" It's the documentary that's the companion to Downfall.
