The real question isn't how many warheads the Russians possess, it's how many they would target on a country like Poland.

Still, the Russians already begun testing the next generation of warheads delivery sistem with scramble technology wich makes nowadays missile defense useless... Also, USA has 100 more missile interceptors in Alaska built after unilateraly withdrawing from the ban on defensive missiles. I do not like the course things are taking it's like someone (I don't mean this someone as an evil global dominator. It's a comparison not to be taken literally) is pulling the strings and this can be very dangerous to us all.
And of course the Russian are peeved about US medling in their sphere of influence. I wonder what would the US would do if the Russians built interceptor missiles in the philipines... Invading trough the Afganistan wouldn't be a good idea. thanks to the treaty regarding ground forces in eastern Europe (a treaty Russia has threatned to leave if the bases go ahead), Russian forces have been thined in that area. In Afganistan boarder Russia could pile up their troops at will and I don't wanna see that. Russia has been rearming and could field an impressive army... Gaining air superiority would be a lot tougher too...
Oh they are also threatning leaving the treaty regarding medium range nuclear weapons and upgrading their tactical nukes. Like I said the world needs to slow down...
And Condoliza said "if Russia doesn't respect the Georgian territory supremacy, there will be reprecussions." Now that's the kind of medling I call throwing more fuel to an already hot fire... as PzJgr said, Us cannot be the worlds police and offering compensations from allowing anti missile defenses to be built is not the best way to go.

    Cheers...

Granted, and an excellent point. Still, the paranoia is no less real.

From Russia's standpoint, the threat doesn't have to be nuclear. They are just as paranoid about conventional forces. For the record, I'm not advocating the Russian viewpoint, but trying to understand it.

    Nice point about militant Islam.

Maginot Line, all over again. You can't put this here to defend against them without offending us.
So, what then? Just let it happen? Chess game, and it always has been.

But wasn't this missile system advertised as being against the putative Iranian missile threat anyway?

Yep. It was not stated nor implied as far as I know as to being a "Defence" against Russian missiles.

And you take that as credible?

It's very easy to alter those missles or simply set up Pershings in their place. These systems are also going to be linked to NORAD in realtime. Most of this really means nothing.

What matters is we are heading for a new arms race, no one needs this when we could be doing better things with the money.
