    Hi,
I have read this and would recommend it. It deals with his life as a member of the SS Nord Division and gives a good insight into the fighting that went on in the frozen Karelian front as well as the fighting on the Western front in the last year of the war.

    Yes its a good read.

If you are interested in SS-Gebirgsjager then I would suggest following it with 'Prinz Eugen' written largely from the divisional diaries and compiled by its second commander Otto Kumm.

Black Edelweiss is a great, well written and honest book about a theater of war that otherwise gets little coverage. I'd like to check out the Prinz Eugen book as well, Otto Kumm was an outstanding soldier and I'd like to find out more about the Partisan war.

The only problem with the Prinz Eugen book really revolves around who the author is. He was it's commander and as such it is a very biased book. He doesn't mention the numerous atrocities that his men committed in the Balkans, for obvious reasons, and you are left wondering what other things has he left out or given a pro-German slant to.

Kumm's "Prinz Eugen" is currently selling for 115$ on Amazon, a bit out of my usual price range for books. Too bad, well hopefully it will be back in print one day.
