If any of ya fans wana know the truth about the battle and not the HOLLYWEIRD version of that fight lemme know Id be happy to recount my experiances as a Ranger in that battle... Marc Bowdens book was very good... the movie was Ok but it left a lot out and a lot of it was dramatized and innnacurate.. also some of the names were changed for some interesting reasons in the Film... If your curious or have a question or comment let me know...

 

What is your take on the inaccuracies in the movie?
I've come to expect movies to never be "spot on" & even watching that the 1st time knew there would be some, if not many.

Ok remeber the Guy john Grimes played by Ewen Mcgregor. In real life he was our Admin clerk who when our grendier Dale Sizemore Broke his arm playing football he went out on that mission... His real name is John Stebbins and hes doing about 5000 years in levenworth for child molestation.... they didnt wana soil our units reputation by using his real name and glorifying a pedophile.... Also the flight in to the insertion point was about 3 minutes TOPS.... not the 10 minutes devoted to it in the film..... Also they only showed about 4 members principally in the film... theyre were over 100 members In bravo company 3rd of the 75th alone and then a platoon from SFOD and the task force 160 guys.... also in the mogadishu mile they took very little fire in the run to the soccer stadium... this is untrue we were firing and manuevering and running and ducking and dodging to break contact... also they didnt show how low on water and how we had No NVGS and very little ammmo... Uh-60s and Ah-6s flew overhead with some Air force combat control team members who also brought in cases of ammo and grenades..... they fast roped in... They also never shw how many times we requested the marines who were offshore to asisit us in theyre LAVS and M1 tanks... and they Refused claiming the area was "TOO HOT" and how when we requeasted tac air, Mortars and artillery that too was denied due to Civilain collateral damage... but hell the civvys were shooting at us LOL...

Never aware of the pedophile incident. Of course you know i know of the AC-130H's that weren't called in, but to have Abrams & LAV's that close & not be able to use them for support is outright stupidity.

 

The MEU off shore never refused to come in. That call was made by NCA, the same people that wouldn't allow armored assets on the ground in the first place. As a matter of fact both the Helo Company and the Boat Company of the MEU were stood up and awaiting launch orders.

The LAV's and Tanks were also prepared to embark on LCAC's when LCAC'S were released by the PHIBRON commander. The release never came because NCA decided to let 10th Moutain deal with it and ask the UN for help.

Same reason that we were ordered to stay off ashore on the 4th when the MEU commander requested to go in and help secure the airport and soccer field. NCA said no.

 

HMMM funny because i actually herd on the Singcars the MEU commander denying assitance IE landing marines VIA ch-53s or uh-1s.... But then again ive heard from several marines after the fact We "The rangers in that fight Got Our Arses kicked and it wouldnt have happened to Marines" I dont doubt you fellas however were ordered to standdown... I beleive Slick willie was off vacationing that weekend and Les Aspin the Sec Def at the time was running the show....

 

Is this the guy who in the movie, threatened to cut of his cast with a knife if they didnt let him in the humvee?

 

yeah Dale sizemore did exactly that... and yes stebby the pervert replaced him.. hate to say it but Old stebbins was hell in that fight...

 

Having read blackhawk down and seen the film it is good to hear from someone who was auctually there just wondered what you thought of mike durants book In The Company Of Heroes

Another Very very good book is THE BATTLE OF MOGADISHU..First hand accounts From the Men of Task Force RANGER... Its was written By the ment of Task force ranger And EDITED by MATT EVERSMANN (WHO WAS PORTRAYED B JOSH HARTNETT IN THE FILM, and DAN SCHILLING, an Air foec combat control team member assigned to TF ranger... with a Forward BY Mark Bowden...

We often refer to this operation during lectures on "KTS". (The drill before you report ready to start a mission.)

It serve as a prime example on assumpsions beeing the mother of all foul ups. (leaving behind a lot of gear based on previous missions)
