In Isreal there are two words that the Jews will NEVER forget, or allow to happen again,

    MASADA and HOLOCAUST.

Iran is in an out and out effort to create a nuclear force, and the means to deliver them, to any target within about 1500kms or even more. A nuke on Tel Aviv will mean a nuke on EVERY major muslim city on the planet on day 2.

They have made repeated threats against Israel and claim they will "cease to exist" soon. Israel will remove that threat if they feel threatened enough, and I am sure they do.

The problem here is that they simply do not have the assets to cart a full, sufficient, load of bombs to Iran and return without in-flight re-fueling. They can ONLY do the job to the degree needed, with small nukes. Fifty or 100x 1000lb bombs will not do the job.

That leaves the USA with the decision to make, let Israel go ahead, or do the job themselves in a new 'Four Day War'.

    this is governmental source:

    France in Afghanistan

France has 35,000 troops overseas. Among them, 16,000 from all branches and services are deployed in operations.

France is the second-biggest contributor after the United States in crisis management missions and the third-biggest contributor in NATO :

    [IMG] France sent troops to Lebanon in less than 72 hours. There are now 1,650 troops on the ground ;
    [IMG] The presence of France in Cote d’Ivoire (3,700) is the cornerstone of the UN mission and contributes to the stability of West Africa ;
[IMG] Similarly, in Chad (1,100), French troops are a major factor in the stability of a very versatile region and contribute, to a certain extent, to prevent the spread of the Darfur crisis.
[IMG] Another significant presence is in the Balkans : about 2,200 troops in Kosovo and 400 in Bosnia.
French military have been involved in most of these places for decades and have paid a heavy sacrifice : 100 French soldiers lost their lives in the Balkans, more than 100 died in Lebanon (58 of them in Beirut on 23 October 1983), and dozens in Africa.

In Afghanistan, 10 soldiers died and 109 have been injured.

OK skipper Im gonna say something and its honest and not meant to antagonize... Frankly the french have not been aggressive at all in afghanistan... and I speak from personal Experiance nor have the germans most nato peace keepers arent doing much but sitting theyre... Same with the poles in iraq. the only troops who are out raiding and killing the bad guys for the most part are the Brits the americans. the aussies and the canadians.... were also the ones who get hit on the most by the terrorits... Funny nobody bitched too much about your wars in algeria and viet nam in the 1950s... also youll notice the majority of french troops france sends to these hot spots is the FOREIGN LEGION.... kinda makes ya wonder dont it

As a former soldier I did not expect much from anybody else other than the British. Everybody else is dead weight.

Gentlemen, the creation of an atomic bomb is much easier then the missile which can carry it for thousands of miles... China had a bomb and it took another decade for them to creat an ICBM.

As for China and Russia, I assure you, they do not want nor benefit in anyway from Iran going nuclear. What these nations are doing is stalling and complicating things for the U.S. in what they see as counter measures for Anti-Chinese and Anti-Russian policies.

In order to solve this problem diplomatically Chinese and Russian help is needed, as Iran currently looks at these two countries as counter weights.......

All must work together to solve this problem, if US deploys troops to Iran by herself, it will be much worse then Iraq.

I think the Iranians already have a missile that can take a nuke to Tel Aviv, and THAT is priority #1.

I kinda gotta go with Slon here. Having faith in a missile not to go up on the pad, hit in the wrong place, or come down on your head is really no big deal....until you add a Nuke !

You better know what you're doing, and have more than faith in your God, or you're gonna meet him.

Za, we have 4 bikes...as you say, seldom used...perhaps soon though.

If they "plug the gulf" .... they're gonna get it from everybody.

If they attack Israel ... they'll only get it from many.

I hope the people there throw out the crazies and join the world.

So, maybe before we engage in such an endeavor we should send Nancy Pelosi's dumb ass off to GreenPeace, vote out a democrat led do-nothing congress, and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

MORTMAN i was not having a dig at you so why jump down my throat. I have EVERY RESPECT!for any serviceman serving in iraq afganistan or any other war or conflict,as for Israel they can look after themselves (SIX DAY WAR ANYONE) and i dont think it follows that every arab nation would join in on irans side. I also made the point that i did not want any more BRITISH OR AMERICAN BLOOD SPILLT and while i am not a serviceman you seem to want to criticise me because i am at home safe, i am not that missinformed or ignorant to sit at home screaming at the telly i have faith in the british army especially as in the first gulf war my Brother was there as part of 7TH ARMD DIV. I like a good debate same as the next person and MORTMAN I HAVE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR YOU AIRBORNE RANGER but it was what my dad RIP (RASC PARACHUTE REGIMENT BURMA 1944-1945) did not talk about in burma that told me the most WAR IS NOT A GAME be you fighting it or at home waiting to find out if your father ,brother, son or daughter is the next casulty of a war that someone else started yours with respect. WTID You come from a long line of warriors pure and simple... I have a wife and 3 year old son i love desperatly... I hate being deployed I hate being shot at and I hate the living conditions.. I hate having to collect inventory and then write some troopers families sending them some trite BS how they died with honor.... But i what i hate more then that is the thought some crazy bastard who hates me and my family friends and All free men for some notion im an Infidel... I know first hand war is not a game... ive been wounded Ive lost freinds.. I suffer from PTSD and i have had to see a shrink in the past... BUT ill be DAMMED if my SON and family and friends AND THAT INCLUDES YOU... will live in Fear and have to kiss some whackjobs ass.... Im sick and tired of these idiots and sick of negoitaiting with madmen... I dont get off on killing folks... its part of my job.... But if you threaten MY SON, MY WIFE, MY FAMILY, MY FRIENDS, MY WAY OF LIFE id gladly lay down my life personally to Kill your ass and not regret it.... Its about protecting our homes......and our loved ones.... I dont have some death wish on the contrary....I am not a hero or a brave man... Ive served with a lot of Heroes and brave men... BUt im very good at my job and my job is keeping America and her allies safe.... And taking care of My men..... Hell a perfect scenario would be they test a bomb and it kills all the fanatics in some freak accident but i aint holding my breathe.... My wife Hates the army with a devout passion.... She hates the fact i missed seeeing my son learn to walk and i am away for so long. She hates having to be BOTH parents in my absence... SHE will not Watch the news while im deployed for fear Ill be listed as a Casualty... But she also knows how bad it is on my END... she hates My job but she supports me... up to and including going to My silly Officer Dining in functions and ACTING like she gives a damm about the Gossip from the other officers wives....But she also knows to me its Something i enjoy doing and something I am proud of...... I respect her and yours opinion but i dont agree with you or her..... Sometimes you have to stand up and put EVERYTHING on the line for whats right... NO MATTER WHAT THE COST.... ANd that sir is what im willing to do on a DAILY BASIS

Mortman i dont disagree that Iran and their FRIENDS need their ass kicking (SAS did a good job of doing that iranian embassy siege 1980)it is just a matter of how it is done. The iranians really took the p!ss out of the uk when they took our sailors and royal marines captive last year but would the uk of gone to war if it had carried on.As for you wanting to defend wife and child and others even me:) as a married father of two daughters aged 4yrs and 18 months i could not agree more what father would not LAY DOWN HIS LIFE for his wife and children, finally as a veteran of somalia iraq and i dare say elsewhere im not surprised you have suffered ptsd and feel the way you do I SALUTE YOU FOR PUTTING YOURSELF IN HARMS WAY i just wont always agree with you keep LEADING THE WAY AS ALWAYS WITH RESPECT. The VA is really good at turning sober individuals into drug addicts, in my opinion!

Mortman: Is the 18th FA Brigade still at Bragg?

    Let's recap.
Most of us agree that Iran is ruled by a madman or zealot.
Sanctions don't work against Iran without support from China and Russia.
Iran has threatened to wipe another country off the face of the earth.
Iran's leader has been shown to support terrorist activity in other countries.

Given the above, it looks like the stage is set for a war. The conditions for it are present. But it's been shown historically that even if the conditions are present, war can be avoided if enough sane officials are present.

Personally, I don't like to push for war. It's an endeavor that can quickly spin out of control and lead to consequences that none of us would like. But if war comes, then let's all do our best, in our own little ways, to make it short but decisive.

Like I have said Iran's threats effect more then Just the US. Iran's threat to shut down the Gulf will involve the other countries in the region.

Kuwait FM blasts Iran threat to shut Gulf strait
Wed Aug 6, 4:36 AM ET

KUWAIT CITY - Kuwait's foreign minister says Iran's renewed threats to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf amount to a "punishment" of its Arab neighbors.
Sheik Mohammed Al Sabah says in comments published Wednesday in Kuwait's Aljarida daily that the latest threats are "odd," because Arab Gulf states support a peaceful nuclear program in Iran.
Tehran reiterated this week that, if attacked, it could shut the narrow waterway along Iran's southern coast, through which up to 40 percent of the world's oil passes. Such a move would send oil prices skyrocketing.
Iran rejects Western accusations it is trying to produce nuclear weapons and insists its program is for producing electricity only.
