i reckon o.m.g would have been a success if the welsh guards were up front, where they should have been, instead of the irish guards.has anyone else thought this over.yours,lee.

Are you from Wales by any chance?

Would not have made any difference. In fact it may well have been far worse given the poor reverse speed of the Cromwell and the single track road.

Sorry. there is no evidence to prove anyone would have made a difference. It was not the troops, but the terrain and the defnce that was the problem.

Piers, is there any evidence of a Guardsman ever using reverse speed at all? No? So your argument has no basis.

the household cavalry was not an integral part of the guards armd div.
the welsh guards were the recon element of the guards armd div.yours,4th wilts.

after the breakout from normandy, the welsh guards came into their own,100miles in a day, skirting strongpoints for follow up troops etc.i just reckon things may have been different.cromwells were faster and lighter than the shermans used by the other armd regts in the g.a.d,and the 8th armd bde.yours.4th wilts.

Don't think it was lack of speed or motivation that caused the slow progress. They had two major obstacles that could not be 'skirted'. The blown Son bridge needed to be replaced and the taking of Eindhoven bridge by river crossing were the major reasons that slowed down the advance to whomever was leading the charge.

indeed.it was a shame dicky winters had son bridge blown in his face, like he said on the t.v show....the lost evidence.
i do believe that the whole advance would have been quicker with the correct elements leading xxx corps,or if not the g.a.d.yours,4th wilts
