Hans Joachim jabs passed away on the 26th of this month. He was laid to rest today at 1pm German time. A guard of honour of the Luftwaffe rendered the last homage to him and former Gemeinschaft der Jagdflieger president Toni Weiler did the officating and paid Hans due respect for a brave pilot........ ~E
Erich, thank you for this. One question? Do you know who made up the Luftwaffe Guard of Honor? or was it non ww2 German Airforce guys?
Carl I have no more than this except I received a note in my e-mail addy expressing this. Would assume quite a few vets from the Nachtjagd force were there paying their respects and the Luftwaffe honour guard I will assume was present day but not sure as I have no clue where the man was buried. ~E
It is very sad to hear about 's Jabs, Cramer, Baum and Mueller. Although I have to report an other bit of sad news too, I've just read that Herbert Isachsen 3.(K)/LG 1 passed away on 21.10.2003 May they all rest in peace. Regards Phil P.s. Does anyone know how Otto Kumm is doing?
Unfortunately I have recieved the information that ritterkreuz- und eichenlaubträger Josef Jakwert passed away on the 21 october. Jakwert was born on the 22 july 1914. He recieved the knight's cross as an Oberfeldwebel and his final rank was Oberleutnant. Best regards/ Daniel [ 12. November 2003, 05:00 AM: Message edited by: charlie don't surf ]
Thank you for this sad bit Daniel. And don't be a stranger here, I feared you fell off the end of the Earth. May Herr Jackwert rest in peace.
That is very sad news, I wrote to him less then two months ago and his wife sent me a couple of signed photos and a letter, May he rest in peace Phil
Carl, did i ever reply to your pm. Soryy if I diddn't, I've tried to cut down on my internet surfing so unfortunately I haven't been here so often. Best regards/ Daniel
No problem my friend and I have not seen a reply to the PM yet. I'm also cutting back some I-net surfing a bit. I have too many personal things needing to be taken care of and some are taking quite awhile.
I just received word that U 181's LI and Knights Cross winner Carl August Landfermann passed away on 18 November 2003. May he rest in peace.
Thanks Ivan, I had not heard they yet. I will have to send a card to his family as well as the other U 181 vets. May Herr Landfermann Rest In Peace.
Is anywhere a list of alive Knight Cross recipients available? If no, does anybody know how many of them (roughly) are still alive?
Knightmove, No definative list exists although the OdR records will be as close as you can get. Approx 300 are OdR members but many more RKT's are still alive but not members of the Organisation. As far as i can recall about 30 Austrian RKT's are still alive, Paul
