Nice one Andy. I saw one like this sometime ago that was issued to some Austrian Fire Dept and it also had attacked a leather neck guard.

Thanks Carl, I don't think my one is fire dept related as it was sourced from the US, so I'm presuming that it was a vet bring back, that was then painted at some stage to prevent surface rust (but i could be wrong).

The red paint is certainly very old, and as a result Im thinking of leaving it as is for now.

Thanks Andy. I had two M-42 lids with no liners or anything in it. One was painted black as i guess the guy who did it thought he could pass it off as Allgemeine SS? The other was painted a sick-looking Battleship Gray. Ive been kicking myself ever since I traded those away too.

Anyway, great addition to your collection ;-))

I bought a german WWI gasmask box yesterday , empty, considering the box alone is worth a fortune (masks in boxes go fo 200 euros +) .I haven't had the time to clean it, but it looks very promissing. The guy also had a pair of German brown boots for sale (he had those in a car boot )

WWI : brought back as trophees and finds furhter north.
1870: we had some severe battles here (Beaune la Roalnde, Loigny, champigny and many other famous battles)

Two new examples : a 1918 Bavarian gasmask box

and a 1870 E.K. marked Schnaps shot bottle (2cl) these were also used in WWI

It was a hard struggle to get this one but Igot my M-16 helmet! This beauty was found at a fair by an antique dealer who is also a friend, so he kept it aside and sold it to me today. He wouldn't sell me the chin strap though, too bad, but that's okay I will find another one.

The M-16 model has a round leather liner as compared to the M-17 which has three leather triangles tied together.
It has 70% of the Feldgrau outside and 90% of the blue inside.

Yes, I'm considering attaching the three leather flaps to the liner or leave it as such . Anyway I can't believe this sort of item can still be found at flea markets in 2010 . I had already thought I'd never get one with paint in this condition.

Andy , this is indeed my second one .:)

Not rare but it's the fist time I see it. I only paid a few euros for it because I still need a ribbon.
