FighterPilot80, allow me, a fellow Texan (trapped in Maryland), to add my belated greetings and welcome! I too would like to express my gratitude for your military service in defense of the nation. Glad you're here!:D

If you didn't hear them coming or going, they must have been P-38s. The blowers on the upper side of the engine nacelles keeps the sound up and back for quiet approaches. That supercharger system redirected the exhaust sound.

Thanks for taking the high and low ground. That took bravery more than flying faster than a few rocks that were thrown.

Welcome to the Forum, Fighter Pilot. It is always an honour to meet a WWII Veteran. So many of the freedoms we take for granted would not have been possible with out the WWII Veterans willingness to stand in harm's way.

You may enjoy reading SouthWest Pacific Vet's two main threads where he describes the land war there.

    Welcome matey.

Reading through the thread, I felt so happy that we could bring veterans together, even though these men never met and fought in different Theatres of operations. Just to read of their tails and how sgt leo talked about the airforce which Fighterpilot was in, it is hard to expain, I am rereading what I have wrote hear and it dosen't make much sense to me, but I hope you will all understand it. I think it is just great.

Thankyou for what you did mate, you were one of many that laid your life on the life for many countries that never asked you too, but regardless you fought for freedom and you along with every other verteran from any war on any side deserves the right to be called a hero.

    Thankyou.

It's great to have you here. We're all looking forward to hearing your stories too. You could probably start many threads covering your time in service from training through both wars. Again, welcome and enjoy your time here.
