Hello All I have enjoyed looking around this forum and look forward to taking an active role. I live near York, England and enjoy visiting Normandy at least once or twice a year with my Father to tour the museums and beaches. In 2008 we took along a metal detector and found some fab pieces including a German helmet, hope to post pics sometime.
Welcome to the forum Rhapsody! This is a great place and there are quite a few people here from England who'll help you feel right at home. Happy posting!!!
Rhapsody -- Welcome to a fine place! I look forward to seeing your photos. There are several relic hunters among the members here so you may want to explore the threads for some of their posts. Cheers!
G'day matey and welcome. I think you Europeans are so lucky living near all those historic sites, and people who actually live in France itself would absolutely love seeing all the old battle areas ( assuming that they are interested in ww2).
I have created an album in my profile with 3 pics of relics, not sure how to add photos onto thread yet.
Welcome aboard, rhapsody! Nice photos of the relics you found around the D-day beaches! Thanks for posting!
Some more pictures of my finds. Everything here was found in fields or hedges around Cherbourg and Sainte-Mère-Église, I kind of assumed the beaches would be well searched by now. Im Lucky to have Friends near Cherbourg so was granted permission to search on some land. 2008 was the first year in 4 visiting the beeches and museums that I took a metal detector, the helmet was my third find after some shell casings. The helmet was about 50cm deep in the middle of a hedgerow and still has the leather liner, the water bottle was about 3m away and was partially exposed, but after further digging around the area I found the bottles cap, a gas mask lens, various clips and buckles and very interestingly a bullet that exactly fits a groove on the top side of the bottle. Hope the pics load, enjoy.
