G'day By being his son in law isn't Clarkson the lucky owner of a then?? Or did he sell it to buy himself a new car?? He must be a lucky b@sterd anyhow then. Popski
Something I found irritating was the way he put things, made it sound as though the chap who brought his biplane down and didn't go for medical attention until he had reported was somehow 'silly' in that he didn;t make a fuss of the wound, things like that annoy me.
Unfortunately guys i missed the programme, but having the priveledge to know personally Dick Annand VC i can only concur with Martins comments about the late Bill Reid VC ,I would certainly describe Dick in the same way. In the action where he won his "Gong" the first of WW2, he is more interested in telling of the Bravery of his men and his German opponents than of himself. My 14 yr old son who also knows Dick laughs when he hears of Beckham being described on TV as a Hero.He tells his friends that he is lucky enough to know a real Hero !! Paul
Having watched the programme last night, i must say that i thoroughly enjoyed it. O.k, we know Jeremy Clarkson can be a bit smug, but in all seriousness, if at any time the bravery or honour of The British armed forces is ever questioned, Jeremy Clarkson is one of the first to jump to their defence. Several times in various newspapers, someone has tried to undermine our armed forces, whether in WWII, or in the Gulf and he has given a scathing reply. Last nights programme wasn't meant for WWII fans only, more for the general public. I still feel that most people think that WWII was fought in Hollywood... I thought that his little bit at the end about being married to Cains daughter, was a nice 'twist' to the story, for people who didn't know much about Arnhem, let alone Cain ! Anyway, at least now i can have a ride in his Aston Martin for writing this......!! Oh, and by the way, nice Forum !!
A very warm welcome here, Hoppy ! We're a friendly bunch - er, well, most of the time - and I'm sure you'll find some stuff to interest you on these Forums....
Point missed. He didn't even know til after the guy was dead. And anyone who thinks he's upper class has no ear for accent. It was a labour of love and should be appreciated as such. Nobody's asking you to like him.
