I'm looking for a school that... -Is Co-educational -Has no less than 1000 students, but no more than 10,000. -Has either a generally conservative or moderate political enviroment. -Does not require a statment of faith, but I'm not against the school having any religious affiliation. -Is either in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada. -Is with in an hour from a city or urban area. -Has admissions that examine the overall whole student. (GPA, SATs, ACTs, essays, athletics, extracurricular stuff, interview, the whole deal.) -Has a 50-75% acceptance rating. -Has a good Political Science and Government department along with the basic stuff such as history and english. -Costs no more than $40,000 a year at maximum. -Offers some degree of financial aid. -Preferably (not needed) Has either Wrestling and or Football in Division III & II or Club. -Has an Army reserve officer training core program. I'm not asking anymore to do any in-depth research for me as obviously that is something I have to do on my own, which I have begun to do. But if anyone has a rough semi-good idea of any colleges that generally match this description any information is appreciated
Gourman Report Ranking of Canadian Universities Canadian University Rankings I expect you will hear from others re US or British, so here is a link to some of the Canadian universities.
Norwich University (Vermont) Rhode Island College (Rhode Island) Plymouth State University (New Hampshire) Merrimack College (Massachusetts) St. Olaf's College (Minnesota) Roger Williams University (Rhode Island) James Madison University (Virginia) Just a few I've been looking at.
I know people who have attended Norwich (a veteran who served in the first and second Gulf Wars, Bosnia and a whole bunch of other places) and at Merrimack. I can introduce you to them if you would like to ask them questions. They both live in Suburban Boston. You might also consider Virginia Military Institute and The Citadel.
You should talk to Stefan about Sheffield in UK. Not in the Oxford/Cambridge league, but meets with most of your requirements...
whatever it is you choose, good luck. that time for me draws ever closer. JW, does anyone over there ever want to come over to the West Coast to study? I know that over here everyone's clamoring to get an East Coast education.
Houston is a rough area but I have never actually been there. My son had a chance to go to A&M last year but we sent him to UKansas for the summer instead.
are you looking for a military-type atmosphere, or just want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere?
Yea, I'm looking for a fairly conservative school with a prominent ROTC program, I've almost definantly decided to join the military. I've never been to Texas so I don't know the area at all including Houston.
I don't mean to "blow Montana's horn" too much, but nobody else does it much. You might like to look into MSU Bozeman, it has most all of your requirements, plus some that you didn't include. I am sure it is well under your financial limit, and does have a number of scholarships, academic, athletic, and ROTC as well. MSU Bozeman is strong on engineering, physics, archaeology, and paleontology. Their English department is also the home of three nationally published authors, and not in the closed world of academics, the real world of selling authors. Goto: Montana State University and it has both ROTC USAF Montana State University Air Force ROTC it also has ROTC Army Montana State University Army ROTC Run through the FAQs to get other input as to price, temps, ect.: http://www.montana.edu/faq/answers.php?mod=3#3.41 And those ROTC Ranger units always test and rank in the top 15% of all ROTC programs nationwide, and its Ranger Challenge team has won the regional competition four of the last seven years. Just a thought, if you enjoy skiing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, mountain climbing and biking, or even speelunking, give MSU in Bozeman a check out. BTW, it is the home of Jack Horner (Jurassic Park advisor), and the Museum of the Rockies; Paleontology a specialty.
