Hi, My name is Jacques and I'm a 22 year old student from Maastricht, The Netherlands. Three years ago I adopted the graves of two American soldiers at the nearby American Netherlands Cememtery of Margraten. Gail C. Kuhn from DC and Hector G. Mallen from TX I'm now searching for the identity and relatives of these two soldiers. Maybe anyone here can give me advice or help ?
Howdy Jacques and welcome to the forum. I suggest you post the same question in the INFORMATION REQUESTS section for better exposure. I have visited your city before. Very nice place. Glad to have you with us. Happy posting.
Jacques, That is a great thing you are doing. As PzJgr suggested, create a new thread for both men and be sure and put their names in the title. Do the headstones have any other information, such as what unit they were a part of?
Allo Kerel and Welkom. Good to see the usual long historical memory of the Dutch living on, here in England we're rather envious of it, a lot of our younger citizens lack similar.
Hello Jacques and welcome! This is fine place and you are a fine fellow for adopting two graves of our war dead. You will fit in quite well here and I look forward to reading your posts. Cheers!
Hello Jacques, good to have you with us. If you post the details about those two brave soldiers, I'm almost certain, some may be able to help you to find more info about them.
well jack maybe we can help you where from adoptiegraven-database.nl and we are a group of people making a database of all the adopted soldiers on margraten... myself i have adopted 2 graves. 1 in 2001 and the 2nd was for more than 60 years adopted by my grandgrandfather. the people how help on the database have all adopted 1 or more soldiers.
A great initiative. Does the adoption consists of cleaning and putting flowers on the grave? Or is ther emore about it?
You are the caretaker of the grave so a few times a year you put flowers on it. like special days like memorial day, birthday, the day he died.... and the fun part is you got to learn more about your soldier if you go to our website...or if you found info that is not on it you can send us a email and we will put it online like a picture of the grave our a personal picture of the soldier....
I looked at the adoptiegraven site and just wanted to say to you both, jacques043 and Ralph84, Thank You my Friends!
