After you answer them correctly, please create your own quiz. This is a quiz on the **Unofficial** nicknames of planes, guns, and some tanks of WW2 (mostly planes). Remember that unofficial means no nicknames like the "Val" for the D3A, or the "Stuart" for the light tank. 1. Whispering Death 2. Fork-Tailed Devil 3. Hitler's Zipper 4. The Flying Porcupine 5. The Honorable One-Shot Lighter 6. Son of a ***** Second Class 7. Stalin's Organs 8. The Burp Gun 9. The Tommy Cooker **Grand Finale Question** 10. What weapon was called the "Sotka", and by which army? I'll be on vacation for the next couple of days, so don't expect to see any responses from me, sorry.
Hello MVHAGEY, Nice idea, but problem is that all these nicknames can be looked up by googleing them Whispering death - was the Beaufighter Forked Tail Devil - was the P-38 Hitler's Zipper - was the MG 42 The Flying Porcupine - was the Sunderland and so on..... Off course I never used google on them Regards Kruska
Haha good point, maybe he should make it go the opposite way. That is give the plane/tank/place etc. and ask for a common nickname. But I suppose there could be too many answers
Never heard of it sorry, but I know you can google them but it's to test your own knowledge and see how many you can get right without looking them up.
3. MG42 5. M4 Sherman 7. BM Katyusha 8. M3 Submachine Gun- Thank you Mail Call, and R Lee Ermy! 9. Panzer V (Tiger) EDIT: (After looking at other posts) No I did not google them... but wasn't the MG42 Hitler's Buzzsaw, not Hitler's Zipper?
1. Whispering Death (Corsair in the PTO, Beaufighter in the ETO) 2. Fork-Tailed Devil (P-38 in ETO, called "one pilot two airplanes" by the Japanese) 3. Hitler's Zipper (MG42) 4. Number 5, 8 and 9 are wrong, sorry EDIT: The MG42 was known under a lot of names relating to saws, zippers, etc.
1. Whispering Death Corsair or Beaufighter 2. Fork-Tailed Devil P-38 3. Hitler's Zipper MG42 or Flak 88 (both made a zipper sound) 4. The Flying Porcupine Sunderland flying boat 5. Currently, that is the name of a Russian MIRV
Number one is correct, except the Corsair is the whistling death, and number ten is wrong. As for number seven, I got it from the book Stalingrad by Antony Beevor, so you can take it up with him
Here is what came up under "Sotka" on a Finnish site; http://personal.inet.fi/kerho/viekinmc/sotka.jpg
Oh sure, and I appreciate the quiz, just Charlie the Bastard is my fave. It's the nickname for the Boys Anti-tank rifle, because it had such a horrendous recoil. There's a Disney training film for it, although lacking any mention of the nickname, it's in three parts on youtube; YouTube - Disney Boys Rifle Training (Part 1) YouTube - Disney Boys Rifle Training (Part 2) YouTube - Disney Boys Rifle Training (Part 3)
I haven't watched it yet because youtube is down, but I've heard of the horrible recoil, just not the nickname, thanks!
okay if we're gonna do this here is one for you... What plane earned the nick name "ace-maker" in the PTO.
I knew I shouldn't have said the PTO... how about an easy one. What Aircraft earned the nickname "Jug" or "Juggernaut" because of it's appearance
