This is not the same situation that was described above. This woman died not because she didn't have health coverage.

Also an interesting side note about this story is that this hospital was run by local government...not the private sector.

Hi Jeff, AGFA is right though, the lady I speak of died in a Kalifornia hospital. I had heard of the incident in NY before but had not thought of it at the time ;-))

Either way, those incidents are sad tragedies none the less.

Its worth mentioning that people die in hospitals where there is free public health systems also.
What i do know is i would be dead now if it wasnt for free public health care so its not something i can argue against.

I've been through times where the money was spread out very thinly in places. I had to at one time, depend on free health. Thankfully, that only happened once and was in 1993. I didn't like the fact that during my collage days that I had to depend on it but, I got great care, or at least IMO, the care I got was top notch.

I shied away from using programs and Orgs like that as soon as I found gainful employment after I got out of Collage. It's embarassing to admit that yeah--I had to depend on it for a short time-approx 15 months-if ou can call that a short time? Anyway, im not one who wants the Govt to - eh hem-to "take care of me" as I would rather do it myself and think i've done a fair job of it these past some 23++ years since I left "the Nest" and started to make my own way.

Anyway, I do and will never mock anyone who has to depend on that system becasue of falling on hard times-I completely understand. What I can and will never be able to understand-is why the hell do I and all tax-paying Americans HAVE to spend their money taking care of people who already broke our laws by sneaking into the Country??? I wish someone would please explain that part to me-and maybe if they do a good enough job of it? maybe I will change my mind about spending BILLIONS of Dollars taking care of illegals when American Citizens who NEED the care--can't get it or can't get it soon enough because these GDed illegals are clogging up the system and making it go broke. Why the hell can't Mexico or whatever Country THEY came from--start taking care of their own people????? But oh ho no, if someone speaks against that-were c~a~l~l~e~d r~a~c~i~s~t~s. $#^*@^ @&^*89!!!! >:-((

Carl. all the arguments you present show to us that you would indeed benefit from a public health service. As your present one is failing you..Thats what your telling us here isnti it.

Hi Urgh, no Sir, it aint. In fact, the coverage I am paying for out of my own pocket-meaning that nobody other than I, am paying for my Medical care. The Insurance I have I think is pretty darn good ;-)) and I am fully satisfied with it as well as that if and whenever I have any problems? I can count on them to come through. I've been in a few "sticky" situations over the years since I got hooked up with my Ins Co. and they always came through for me. I have never had a problem with them in the years I have had them-much unlike the last Ins Co I had before this one.

Not only do my Meds cost at a price I can afford, so is my Drs visits co-pay fee as well as specialist fees. My ER fee is also greatly affordable. Any person I have talked with who works for my Ins Co, have all been very professional and very helpful.

Im not hard to please (even if it doesn't seem like it here:)) and I don't demand anything. There was a time that I fell behind on my Ins Payments by three months because of an emergency hospitalization I had back in 2005-where I spent 3 & 1/2 weeks in hospital because of a double staph infection. My Med Ins Co knew my situation and completely understood. They allowed me all the time in the world that I needed, to catch up - when they could have simply told me to F.O. and that they would no longer insure me. Well, thankfully, that didn't. ;-)) Needless to say, I was extremely pleased and impressed with them. I don't ever wish to change insurance companies-or at least-anytime in the near future.

Nope, I have absolutely no problems at all with the Med Ins I now have and I do not want some ass in the Govt try to tell me whats good for me. They don't know me or my needs, wants or history, so since my insurance thing aint broken? I don't need it fixed.

socialized medical care is for those who are too lazy to go out and get a job (with the exception of the very poor and or disadvantaged) and to "join" the community and also contribute something useful-instead of 12 babies and a bunch of beer cans. ;-))

Theres no stigma here whatsoever here about free public health, its the norm,
People figure that they pay their tax(paye) and as such are entitled to it,same as the fire service, police service and water.
If the government tried to adopt the american system they would never ever be elected again.

Yeah....everyone hates American capitalism.....you're kidding right? You keep using the word FREE....there is nothing FREE about your countries care. You are being forced to pay for something that you may be able to get privately for cheaper or less regulated. There is a reason that people put their money in our economy and not countries like yours.....they have the ability to make unlimited gains...not be forced to turn around and hand over 50% so that everyone can have the same thing.

On a side note...I am an Insurance broker here in the states and I have never heard of an Insurance company that allows a policy to become more than 90 days past due....even in a group situation after 90 days the policy will lapse. If you are lucky enough to be approved for reinstatement without having to prove that your health hasn't changed you should count your lucky stars.

Hi Agfa, well in my case-they did. No it wasn't a reinstatement either-and they never cancelled my policy even for a single day. I had some problems for a few months-I kept them informed and I sent them money when I could untill I finally got all paid up and never fell behind since then. If you want me to name my Ins. CO,-ill do so in private. Also, I know you will know very well-about my Ins CO after hearing their name as they are one of the nations largest companies.

    Best regards-C.

Anyway, that might not be a norm for other companies but, I kept mine well informed as to my intentions, they gave me lee-way, and like I said, i've never had any problems with them and if something out of the "norm" occurs-they are always on top of it and I do not have to worry.

Now if interested? the other Insurance I had was Blue Cross Blue Shield. I even had a Supplemental Insurance through someone else-but I can't think of that Companies name off-hand? I had these Ins COs when I was working for the State of Texas. I like them but-that have snags at times. The one I now have-which for my needs-is the best one for me. On top of those two Companies I had coverage with, I also had a $1 million Dollar Life Ins policy. If I happened to get badly injured or killed by an inmate assault-they would make my family that much richer.

I only had one inmate of tens of thousands over the years--ever threaten to kill me-and it was the fatherless son of a Beach who kidnapped and raped my then) Fiancee and also threatened to slit her throat as well as shoot her. This low life scumbelly had been in and out of prison several times for raping children-its last term in prison was for raping a TWO year old Girl-who happened to be the Daughter from its last Girlfriend-who herself-is one sick beach.

If your curious about getting more retails about this too-feel free to ask.

Oh and, I forgot to mention that I too know something about Insurance Companies. I almost went to work for a major Company as a Claims Adjustor. I went through the coarses I needed at a local College in Kingsville, TX-which used to be called: Texas A&I University-which also has the worlds best Engineering courses. Of course, thanks no less to Carlos Truan, their "identity" was taken away from them and they are now a part of the A&M system.

Sorry everyone puts money in whose economy? Plus, what unlimited gains are there to be made? At what cost?
And actually, there is no FREE on your country healthcare. You force everyone to go to a private system (which is the nº1 cause for personal bankruptcy in the USA) with no option for a public one. In Ireland, you can choose ergo, it's freer than yours.

And you're saying your health system is great however, if you need to see if your health has gotten any worse in order to still get coverage for the same ammount of money is a tad unfair don't you think?

You can cite Zhu's study to back this falacious statement, while at the same time there are multiple studies that show the number one cause of bankruptcy is over consumption of consumer goods...spending more than you make on trivial items.

    Bingo!

Zhu's study should have been funded by the Obama WH. A few years ago I believe the number was a little over 1 million people went bankrupt in the US because of medical bills. Far more go bankrupt starting small businesses or living outside of their means. That statement is pure Liberal propaganda...

As far as our economy goes, we STILL have the worlds largest economy. When our economy struggles the entire world's struggles. As we go you go....

Unlimited gains.....you do understand how free trade works don't you? To many people are myopic and only want to talk about the last 2 years of the US economy. Go back and look at what gains were made in the S&P 500 in the last 20+ years. Go look at the DOW Industrial since the late 1930's.

I must be missing something living here in the greatest country in the world because all I ever see are people floating in bath tubs, swimming rivers, hiding in trucks and running across borders to get into our country.....funny how that works......

All i'm saying is free public health care isnt the big bad evil thing some americans think it is,its ok,if you get sick or in an accident you know you wont be left high and dry.Its one less thing to worry about.
Not good for insurance brokers but it pretty much works for everyone else.

If someone wants go go private they can,the exact same as the american system.
Agfa, what should happen with people who cant afford private health care?people before bucks.

RIGHT ON JEFF!!!! Nobody could have said it any better.

Macker, ill tell you one of my main reasons why im against Obama-Lama-Ding-Dongs plan. This one of several main reasons is because that SoB is trying to be sneaky and shove it down our throats against the wishes of the vast majority of Americans. "We" Americans do not like Govt trying to force us into doing things we don't want to do. Refer back to the Revolutionary War, as well as the U.S. Civil War-and those are two huge examples of past history that you can draw on for things the average American was against the Govt stepping in and forcing us to do things we wanted no part of to begin with.

Heck Macker, you ought to know all too well about not liking what some Govt tries to force you to do ;-)) Something to do with England ;-))

    Fair enough Macker.

I hate to sound cold but my responsibilities are to my wife and children. I am responsible to provide for them and them only. If I have any extra after that it is my decision where it goes. I am only willing to give or help out those who are willing to help themselves.

There is also this perception that if you do not have health insurance in the US that you can not get treated. That is simply not true! I can go down to the local clinic and be treated for strep throat and it will cost me about $75.00. The problem is that people who elect to spend their money on frivolous things instead of supplying health coverage for themselves and family are the reason why health coverage is in such a mess today. Instead of going to that clinic they will go to the ER, too many non insured people use the ER as a doctors office. I had kidney surgery earlier this year and the ER stay for 17 hours was almost as much as 2 days admitted in the hospital and the surgery itself!

Tort reform is another one as well. Too many lazy people looking to get rich off of others hard work.

But is not free. Someone has to pay for it and guess who it won't be? Those who support it's implementation. I already get gouged to pay for "indigent" care, now they want to add to this, those who think they should not have to pay their own way?

I chose to get a post secondary education, while working 40 hours a week during most of it, so that I could offer a better life to my children than my parents were able to offer to me. Growing up on a farm was not easy. I'm not complaining, it was the life given to me and we made the best of it. I had a good childhood

I have no compassion for those who who are heathy and make choices that are not necessarily compatible with self-reliance.

That is a major cause of the "crisis" affecting health care. It isn't the lack of or abililty, but rather the cost. If we had a loser pays system, I guarantee you that the number of lawsuits would drop dramatically and along with it the cost of medicine.

Anyone have any idea how long a obstetrician works each year to pay for his malpractice insurance? I'll give you a hint, 3 to 4 months.

Trust me...I know all to well.....malpractice insurance is something I wish I was appointed to sell.

Europeans just do not get it. They have grown up their entire lives doing things the "social" way. It must seem rather odd to them how we do it here in the US. They all want to keep throwing around the word "free"...there is also the little difference in population. Ireland for example has an estimated population of around 4 million....Los Angeles has nearly 10 million alone.....big difference my friend.

3 Trillion dollars of tax payer money so that a few can benefit from it looks as stupid written on paper than it sounds when I say it. It would be cheaper to just pay to relocate all of these "hard workin' folks" to Canada so they can have their wonderful health care benefits....and their 42-50% payroll taxes.

Wall Street, George W. Bush, private sector insurance, hospitals, Bernie Madoff, Fannie May, Freddie Mac and the almighty God himself are not responsible for the current state of health care in this great country....dead beat Americans and illegal aliens are.
