Tom Cruise May Fly In World War II For John Woo

"We heard that Valkyrie co-writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie was putting something together with the help of Mason Alley as a starring vehicle for Tom Cruise back in December of 2008. Now, Coming Soon reports that not only is Cruise’s involvement likely, but that Mission: Impossible II director John Woo will be the man behind the lens.

In an interview with CS Woo gave a brief description of Flying Tigers:

“It's based on a true story in WWII, about a group of American volunteer fighter pilots who worked with the Chinese Air Force fighting with the Japanese and they won the war. Also, it's the story of Clair Chennault, and they did a great contribution for the Chinese, and the Chinese people love and respect them. The whole story is about a friendship between a Chinese and an American and they worked together."

Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chennault was the commander of the Flying Tigers, the 1st American Volunteer Group responsible for defending the Chinese from the Japanese in WWII. The Tigers relied on unorthodox tactics to inflict a serious amount of damage on the Japanese forces."

I sure hope that Cruise doesn't play David Lee "Tex" Hill, as that would be a great disservice to a man I met at a gun and militaria show some years ago.

 

To hell with that.........I hope is stricken with palsy and con no longer appear in movies*

*Passage changed mid thought from act to appear as it is common knowledge that Tom Cruise can not act.

 

How about leaving WW2 alone altogether Mr Cruise...

 

Considering some of the bad actors I have seen in a lot of WWII movies, Cruise isn't so bad.

I don't care so much for his "religious" beliefs, but I think he's turned out some decent movies.

 

Had I been drinking something when reading your post, as sure as shootin, it would have come out of my nose. Thanks for the gaff and I fully agree.

 

Actually was pretty good in Valkyrie, while he is irritating he can act and has been in some pretty good movies.

 

I'm more surprised at the choice of John Woo as director. Remember when he made "Windtalkers"?

 

I sure wish Directors such as: Lewis Milestone, Bernhard Wicki, Sam Peckinpah, John Ford and Howard Hawks, were still around. Woos films that I have seen, are lackluster at best.

 

To see how good Woo can be, check out his earlier pre-Hollywood Honk Kong stuff, esp Hard Boiled. It has some of the best shoot-em-up sequences ever, even if they defy reality. I have n't seen his Chinese latest yet -Red Cliff - but its supposed to be very good. And yeah -Windtalkers sucked.
