Hi all... relative was in 507th PIR

    Hi all,

    I just responded to a thread in "WWII General" commenting that my Great Uncle served as a paratrooper in the 507th. I apologize as I first should have first come here to introduce myself.

    I have done quite a bit of research on the 507th. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may have had a relative in that regiment.

    As for my uncle, he was killed on 14 June 1944 near Normandy. Unfortunately, I don't know much more than that. I attempted to get his IDPF but the Army said his record was lost. So that ended up being a dead end.

    I have been reading the postings in the forums for months but decided it was time to make myself and (more importantly) my Uncle known to the group.

    I found this information online about my Great Uncle.

    The 507th PIR - Corporal Louis Francis Jr

    All the information matches what I believe to be true although I cannot verify if the picture shown is actually him.

    Unfortunately, all I know about him I heard from my Grandmother. She was told by the Army that he was shot by a machine gun.

    I am curious how his bio ended up on the Airborne website. There was a person who was running a site dedicated to the 507th who I have been in touch with. She actually referred me to a book where my Uncle was mentioned by name in a story. She is very knowledgeable about the regiments actions before, during, and after D-Day. It has been about a year since we communicated and I was not able to find the website.
