Broadway Musicals

OK . . . . no jokes please, but I am a fan of Broadway musicals (and classic MGM musicals for that matter). I am curious to learn whether any other Rogues are fans of the genre. Let's limit this thread to Broadway shows and let us know your five (or however many you wish) Broadway shows. If you want to elaborate on the whys, wheres or whens, please do:

1) Les Miserables
2) Jesus Christ Superstar
3) Camelot
4) Show Boat
5) West Side Story

 

I think these are all broadway shows so here goes..
1.) South Pacific
2.) Jesus Christ Superstar
3.) Brigadoon
4.) Seven Brides for seven brothers
5.) Oklahoma (Although I really like it just for the music)

 

107thCav - Great choices! On other days I might just as easily have listed Seven Brides, Brigadoon and Oklahoma. I usually think of the film versions of Seven Brides (Keel and Powell are awesome!) and Brigadoon (Kelly and Johnson are again a great duo). I have seen a couple of productions of Oklahoma and would love to see it revived yet again.

 

Thanks, I saw Brigadoon years ago part of the broadway series in Cincinnati. I agree it would be nice if Oklahoma was revived. They sure don't make them like that anymore.

(I once wasted 3O pounds to see "Starlight Express" in London; I laughed, I cried, I kissed 30 pounds good-bye!)

However, I and my family really enjoyed Les Mis at the Kennedy Center. Other musicals are Oklahoma, South Pacific, My Fair lady, and almost anything with Gene Kelly (Singing in the Rain)

 

I've never seen a Broadway musical but going to see "Wicked" in a few weeks!! I do love the movies South Pacific and Jesus Christ Superstar. Both had amazing music!!

 

Though im not a fan of musicals, i have seena few like:

1) Damn Yankees-which i thought was actually very good.
2) The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas-which had yvonne DeCarlo in the lead role. I actually met her, got her autograph and lost it a few days later. What the heck/ i was oNLY a kid at that time ;-0)
3) Cats.

I can't remember if I have seen any others?

Hi david, she sure was. And when I met her after one of the shows she did in Kingsville, she was very nice to speak with and gave me several minutes to talk with her. I had not intended on asking her about The munsters but, I HAD to ask what it was like to be with both Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis "Grampa'. She told me both were easy to work with but they always had trouble getting things done on time because they always had the cast and crew in stitches mostof the time )

This reminds me-Al Lewis, shortly before he passed away-did a Comedy act in Corpus Christi at the new American bank Center-but tickets quickly sold out and i never could get one in order to go see him. Had i been able to do so, I would have loved to have tlked with him and also mentioning to him that i saw his "Daughter" in kingsville about 120 years earlier-doing her thing with TBLWHiT. ;-00

Al Lewis did get interviewed by local radio talk show hosts and was a laff a second during his interview.

 

Hi Biak, $100 sounds a bit high. I paid roughly $15.00 to go see Damn Yankees-which was about 2 1/2 yrs ago but was in Corpus CHristi.

 

"For some reason we hadn't marked the calendar (which we always do). I bought the tickets about three months before, $37 each and stuck em' in my wallet. I was sure it was the LAST weekend of the month. Never gave it a thought after that. Had a lot of things going on at the time. I have been reminded every so often since then though."
