Downfall?

I'm into the Hitler parodies, so I'm going to rent Downfall tomorrow.

How historically accurate is it?

I heard there was nudity in it. Is it brief?

 

It was worth a look. I don't remember any nudity, if there was some it was brief enough not to remember it. There are a lot of die hard Tom Cruise haters on this forum that ripped it to shreds, but I thought it was ok. There are several older threads on the forum that deal with the movie already. Use the search function and pull them up for a quick review.

To my opinion it is a historically very accurate Film. As to the nudity part - well according to German perception - nothing really special (for a moment I was stunned about that question) - in regards to Americans - propably a porn flick lasting 3-4 seconds

D'oh!!!! Yes, you're right! Oh dopey me. Thanks for setting me straight on that one. No wonder I missed the nudity thing. Must have been when I went out for some popcorn and soda pops!

 

I enjoyed it. It was good look into the desperate situation Berliners were facing in 1945, and Hitler`s delusional beliefs that the war was still going his way.

I liked the bits where the boy`s father tried and failed to reason with the HJ flak crew in order to save them all, and General Weidling arriving at the bunk expecting to be shot, but ending up getting the job of defending the city.

 

Well, I hate Tom Cruise but you won't find me tearing Downfall to shreds.....

Seriously, the film is brilliant and Bruno Ganz' performance as Hitler is exceptional ( although rather devalued now by all the YouTube parodies ). If you can get the 2-DVD special edition then I'd recommend it - for once the 'extras' are worth the money.......

 

I agree with Martin, the 2 disc edition is the one to buy. Its a great film and really well shot. Ganz is excellent, chillingly so. All the personalities of the Bunker are well represented and St. Petersburg does a great job of looking like Berlin (its where it was filmed)

 

I think it's a great film! For me though, the scariest character? Magda Goebbals. Killing your own kids........................

I was thinking about buying/renting the movie Downfall, but now that I know that there is nudity in it I will not buy it. I'm happy I read this thread before renting/buying it.

 

It sounds interesting, and I'll definitely check it out! I have a piano lesson tomorrow, so I'll swing by Hollywood Video and get it.
