There are many Native American Swastikas surrounding the inside of the Kimo Theater here in Albuquerque. It was built in 1927.
The swastika, or heaven wheel can turn either direction. Turning one way in Native American (Hopi at least) folklore it is the Sun Wheel, turning the other the Moon Wheel. And it has been around forever, literally. In Hinduism, the two symbols represent the two forms of the creator god Brahma: facing right it represents the evolution of the universe (Pravritti), facing left it represents the involution of the universe (Nivritti). In Buddhism, when facing left, it is the omote (front) manji, representing love and mercy. Facing right, it represents strength and intelligence, and is called the ura (rear) manji. Balanced manji are often found at the beginning and end of Buddhist scriptures (outside India). Goto: Hindu Gods, Swastika, About the Swastika, Hindu Gods and Relationship With The Swastika, Buddha With Swastika This first image (attached) is of Ganesha, one of the most common of the Hindu Gods. Ganesha is worshipped as the god of intellect and wisdom, is a patron of arts and sciences, as well as the lord of beginnings and obstacles. In this image, Swastikas adorn the open pages of the book at Ganesha's feet. The swastika is an important symbol in Hindu Vedic texts. The oldest of these are written in Sanskrit, and are over 5000 years old. The word Swastika comes the Sanskrit word svasti (sv = well; asti = is), meaning good fortune, luck and well-being. But the Buddhists also adorned the Buddha himself with a swastika at one Shao Lin Temple at least (attached). See (picked this site for the picture quality only): The swastika at Shaolin Temple And just for kicks and giggles, check out the swastikas on Lord Krishna's hands and feet. Last two attachments. Too bad the Nazis appropriated this ancient symbol to their own nefarious use, I think the Hopi recently won a court battle to re-incorporate their ancient symbol. They had painted them out of buildings, and stopped putting them into their woven rugs for a time.
I guess the neo-nazis will became budist even hinduist in Germany. You know ... the swastikas are forbiden there. So many toy stores here sold tin soldiers in nazi era uniform. I didn´t saw the tswastika in Ganesh's image... Where it is?
Sorry, I cannot make the image larger. Don't know how to do that yet. The two swastikas are on the pages of the open book at the idol's feet. They are the tiny red symbols on the bottom (top?) of the pages. I don't know why I didn't include the URL for that image of Ganesha, I thought I had for some reason. Anyhooooooo; Goto: http://www.heathenworld.com/swastika/Default.aspx?s=22 For the full sized image and look on the book at its feet.
I guess the swastikas were in the bottom of the book, the sancript is an indo european lenguage, like latin o english so it's writing is equal ... an Ganesh was the god of the renovation ... as you posted up there it implies the swastika should look to the wright. Greetings
When I took a trip to India I noticed the swastika over most business entrances, so not only does it represent a god they have, it is in daily use also.
It's interesting how a symbol of ancient cultures and religions can also symbolize an era of mass hatred and war
Hi; The swastika is a migration symbol in Hopi mythology; Book of the Hopi by Frank Waters - a summary and analysis http://www.spiritualmindpower.com/files/Gary_Swastika_Srilalitha.org.htm According to the myths, the Hopi people were charged with the sacred mission of wandering the four corners of the North American continent before returning to the center of the world-which is where they currently reside in Northern Arizona. It is unfortunate that this venerable symbol was hijacked by the NAZIs and came to mean something much different in people's minds. JEffinMNUSA

The myths about the wanderings of the Hopi people. Curiously enough there are stunted prickley pair cactuses at the prehistoric petroglyph site here in Jeffers MN. I asked the state archeologist about a possible Southwest connection and he supposed that the cactuses were brought here on the fur of migratory animals. I asked him about some possible connection with the Hopi migration myths and he said that no pottery or any sort of artifacts had turned up so no-there is no connection. I pointed out that the myths predated the invention of pottery and pointed out that there was a spider glyph at the site and that the northern migration was said to have been lead by the Spider Woman. It can perhaps never be known if proto Hopis wandered the prairies this way, but it is a possibility. http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2648901600030546503mlvkmJ JeffinMNUSA
