My name is Jay Pesek. Call me what you like, most stick with J or Pesek. I am 31 years old and have been interested in WWII since I can remember. I am from Birmingham, AL originally. I am interested in finding out more about my grandfather's unit(s), and gathering timeline information for a family project I am completing for his estate. I have literally thousands of photos, documents, etc. that my grandfather saved and apparently never mentioned. I am also interested in identifying some of these things and sharing photos, etc. when it can help. My grandfather retired as Lt. Col. Carl P. Croninger. US Army
Welcome to the forums jtpesek, and congratulations to your grandfather. Scan and post as many photos and documents, and someone here will be able to identify them for you. Enjoy your stay, look around and post often.
Thanks A-58. I tried to post a photo earlier, but I believe I have saved them in sizes too great for posting. I will try and find a way to get them on the site regardless. Where is the best place to post the documents and pictures?
In the Military Service Record and Geneological Research forum. Go in there, start a new thread explaining what you need help with, and post them there. Go in there and take a look at some other threads with similar items to get an idea on how to structure your thread. You'll get plenty of hits soon enough.
Welcome to the forum Jay. I look forward to any pictures you would like to share with us, and am sure someone will be able to help you identify some things. Your best bet for uploading a picture would be to upload them to the forums picture gallery (which should allow larger photo's than trying it as an attachment) or on a photo sharing site like photobucket, then click the "insert image" button when posting, copy/paste link, and it should appear in your post. Happy posting.
Welcome Aboard J I wish you much luck with your research, it can be frustrating at times, but overall it is fun. Have you contacted NPRC about getting your grandfathers records ? Andrew
I have the majority of his records, (I believe) already, they are just in boxes... I am going through all of them as I can. I am a full-time grad student, so I get to the stuff usually on the weekends or if I am up late at night. I recently located a WD AGO Form 66 from July 1947, and also a DA AGO Form 643 A. Both have some pretty good info, and I also have his DD214. However, I had hoped that one of these forms had more specific information about his participation in certain units, etc. Are there any particular forms I should be looking for, or perhaps requesting from someone/organization? Thanks so much. I will try and post more photos this week sometime.
Greetings mate, Firstly welcome to the forums. After scanning your papers, the best thing to do is to give a copy to sites that collect those, someones like these people They usually do all the job for you, and give you a handy link which you can share with us. You can alternatively upload them to free servers, like l4rge.com which offer enough space, and you just hav eto post the links hee. You can also compile them into a pdf file, and compress those files and send it across.. Or if the file sizes are really too big, you can resize them, and upload it Looking forward to see your contributions. Regards, TBA
Welcome Jay, good to have you here and thanks for your offer to post information concerning your grandfather.
Hello Jay and welcome to the forum. As the others have stated, we look forward to any information you might have. Hope we can help and that you become a steady contributor.
Thank you all! I have registered for a free Box.net account. I will check some of those other sites as well and post when I can. I have classes, as I have mentioned, but once the summer sessions settle down, I hope to contribute more frequently.
