i have a photo of my grandfather in Hiroshima after the bomb drop. there are at least 50 soldiers standing by a giant arrow looking thing.with a hand painted sign saying " center of atomic bomb fell on aug 8 1945 at 1100". has anyone else ever seen one of these????
Can you post a scan of the image? My understanding is that the bomb had exploded in midair, regardless, do you know when the photo is dated?
the picture is not dated but it is probably sometime in late 1945 or early 46, just guessing! sorry i cant scan it.
Why not? Thousands, perhaps millions of pictures were taken during the war, it would be impossible to try to narrow this down without even the slightest look.
I seem to remember seeing a picture of a large arrow (black and white no idea of the color), approximately 8 to 10 feet high and tilted at a slight angle that sounds like what you have. I "think" it was in a book I read years ago and I've been 'Googling' the last couple of days trying to find something. If it is the same, I'm sure it was a Government photo and you might try "mil.gov" sites. Sorry for the vague answer, you've got me intrigued and I'm going to keep looking. Good Luck Just fond this site if you have a lot of time to view the several thousands pictures! It might be in here somewhere http://www.ww2incolor.com/us-army/?g2_page=1
after a call to my grandmother she told me he was in Nagasaki and not Hiroshima1 sorry for the confusion
I realize this is a orphaned thread but is this the photo?: August 10, 1945: An arrow marks the spot where the A-bomb struck at Nagasaki, Japan. Much of the bombed area is still desolate, the trees on the hills in the background remained charred and dwarfed from the blast and little reconstruction, except of wooden shacks as homes, has taken place.
