RAF fighter markings

    Hi,

    what do the markings on the fuselage of RAF fighters mean and represent?

    two letters then a RAF symbol and another letter then small numbers.

    K5083 - Squadron Codes this should explain the letters.

    rear letter and numbers represent the planes I.D. ...e.g. : H-655 = H for hotel, using the phonetic call signs..

    Your absolutely correct.:).. I was using it as Example, good post, removed..takao..hence the e.g...:)

    Dear Sir,
    The two letter / numeral code identified the squadron, the single letter / numeral the individual aircraft within the squadron. The letter / numric combination, (usually on the rear fuselage, or under the tailplane) the makers "registration" number to identify the aircraft much as a car's registration number.
