ok well let me start of by telling you, that i dont know any of the actors name or year it was made, all i remember is that i saw this movie once growing up and i never saw it again. here goes my description hope it helps. well all i remember is, it was a WW2 movie. ordered by the CO for a company to go into the woods, telling the leader(this character wears glasses) he would have reinforments to the west and east of him, he was lying. they go into the woods only to find intrenched germans. the battle starts for days, until the americans with low supplies and high casualties refuse to surrender. the leader tells his remaining men to start fires in the morning to make it look as if all the men were eating. ok the leader sends a runner to go find the reinforcements, but never returns he gets captured by the germans, and is questioned by the german CO, offers him a cigarrate, he says no, and replies you americans always have to much of everything. they let him go returns to the company and tells the leader. next they start getting bombed, still no surrender, the leader says you have to do more i have (new york gangsters) with me. long story short US reinforments finally break thru, the germans surrender, the leader tells his CO u lied to me and gives him the dog tags of all the fallen men and walks off with his men. hopefully this helps someone. help me, thanks in advance
It sounds very much like a movie from 2001 called "The Lost Battalion",which could be a re-make of the one you remember from growing up.Mind you ,as I don't know what age you are maybe it's it.A guy called Ricky Schroeder was the lead in it.
rifleman, the film you are talking about was set in WWI rather than in the 2nd WW. But you are correct it is a remake of an earlier film.
Sounds vaguely like "Battleground". But not quite? Battleground (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The movie is "The Lost Battalion", I don't know if it is the original or 2001 remake. The remake can be found on youtube Here is Part I: YouTube - THE LOST BATTALION (1/9) Here is a quote from the 2001 remake of the scene where the dogtags are handed to the general Interesting factoid the actor, Phil McKee, who plays Capt. George McMurtry in the 2001 remake, also played Major/Lt. Col. Robert Strayer in the "Band of Brothers" HBO miniseries.
