Hi! I finally finished a shadow box for my grandfather. I only wish he was here to see it, I know he is looking down with a smile! The only addition I need to make is overseas service bars. I also have a marksman badge that I assume is for the carbine listed on his papers. I might add it instead of the service bars.

Thanks! I really do cherish him and his items! It bothers me to see people taking their family members' things to a pawn shop or somewhere to sell them.
When my wife's grandfather died in the late 90s, the family was breaking down the house and dividing up the belongings, so I went by to help if they needed me. I parked on the street and when I got out of my truck, I noticed some old newspapers there, partially falling out of a box that was to be discarded. I looked closely at them as I passed by and realized that the newspapers were from WWII. I decided to dig through the box and in it were letters his young children had written to him when he was overseas. Also in the box was the telegram he had sent when he got to the States, telling his wife that he was coming home and would be there in a week! I was absolutely appalled. Needless to say, all of that is at my house and even though he was not related by blood to me, he is to my children and potential grandchildren. I hope that they appreciate that I saved those treasures.
Beautiful job Ducky. Nice curbside catch Jeff. There's no telling how much of our history is kicked to the curb. On a similar note, one of my neighbors in the 70's told me how she disposed of a Confederate uniform, documents and sword; because she didn't have anyone to hand them down to.
Looks like you have the makings of a nice book there Jeff. I hope that you preserved the artifacts well.
