I would like to take the German 12.8cm Tank Destroyer L/61 "Sturer Emil" for a drive and see what 128mm of gun can do.

The Panzer V "Panther" all the way. Its 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 main gun had more penetrating power than the Tiger I's 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 because of a higher muzzle velocity. Add that excellent gun with a great balance of speed, armor, and reliability, and one can see why I chose the Panther! Plus it has a greater range than heavier tanks that burn more fuel per km.
    I love "what if" questions...;)

Panther crews died by the droves in the war. I would stay away from any machine fielded in the Wehrmacht or the Soviet Red Army like the plague!

I suppose it would be determined by which "side" or such you were fighting on. The best for the Nazis was probably a toss-up between the Tiger II and the Panther for "best". They both had flaws, but they were pretty dang good for the time.

On the Allied side, the British "Comet" variant was pretty impressive, it lasted well into the fifties with improvements, and the US "Pershing" was the basis of many of American tanks for generations.

For the USSR, the IS-2 was the contemporary of both the "Comet" and the "Pershing", and even with the problem of "two piece" ammo it was also a very impressive AFV. If I was a Red Army commander, the IS-2.

If I was a British tank commander, the Comet. If I was an American, the Pershing. Only the Nazi designs left one with more of the battlefield problems, they just never quite got the record for reliability of their opponents.

But they looked cool! You´re right about the reliability of German tanks, sadly! Sometimes not so perfect made things will run better. I think they were built to complicated for the circumstances but a King Tiger would be a good choice.

right on bro, was looking at Sturmgeschütze Vor ! book again..............wow incredible information and even if 1/4r of the info on Soviet armor kills cannot be verified the vehicle still had such a famous an productive track record unequaled by any piece from any nation during the war.

True enough and more so impressive as it started out as storm artillery for the infantry. The addition of the 7.5 cm Stuk 40 L/43 changed its character and the L/48 made it the killer.

I still believe that the JadgPanther was the best Tank killer, Good sloped armour a superb gun and the agility of the Panther, an all round winner for me

Those are two of my favorites, especially since the 88mmL71, the best tank-killing weapon, can keep up with the tanks and be where it's needed. Personally I'd ride a standard Panther and hopefully have a few Jagdpanthers close by!

Agility? Are we talking the German tank or the four legged cat that runs around the jungle?
