    Hi all
this helmet has come up for sale can anyone tell me if its a rare one as the camo is inscribed by 7 military personel . Comes with this description
My father was in the Merchant Navy and travelled to Vietnam on a Shell tanker delivering fuel. My mother travelled with my father at this time. The helmet was given to my mother by a soldier in Vung Ro Bay, Vietnam during the war in 1968.
The helmet is signed by several US soldiers serving at the time and the Captain of the Shell tanker.

    thanks
    Dean

If it's something you like, and the price is agreeable, then buy it. This site is not an investment consultation forum; there are several forums that deal specifically with collecting Vietnam era militaria, you might check with them.

    Hi jugger head
im sorry for mistaking this for a ww2 forum, i added it in the personel gear section which i think is correct as it is head wear, there are lots of threads from people who are asking the same questions as i do before making a purchase. Probably because were looking for expert advise from EXPERTS, so we dont get conned along the way. Also checked most of the collecting sites for vietnam militaria ie this one Vietnam - Equipment and Uniform and it has no details on personalized camo covers !!!. So im sorry if this thread has annoyed or angered you, but please if it does so just ignore it dont tell me to go to another site. Also i didnt mention investment, but im guessing every collectors items will be some sort of an investment for our kids as were not immortal, hence we cannot own them forever . So whoever recieves them will have an investment.
Im honestly quite offended by the response, thought we were all here to help

Sorry you took my post so crossly as that was not the intent. Usually rarity is associated with value and you do have priors for asking wether something is worth the asking price. So, be offended if you must. The moral of my comment stands: "If you like the item and the price is agreeable, buy it."

That being said; the address, in Red Bluff California, is 30 minutes from my house.

By referring you to another web forum I was only giving you an avenue of research which you could pursue to ascertain "rarity" of such items.

U see you have already told me something i didnt know, that the adress is in red bluff cali, i do like the item was just asking advice on the hand written camo is all. Whether they are a rarity ??
And i do buy what i like just need someone with an eye for personalized camos to help so i dont throw my money away is all.
It would also be helpful if guiding someone to another web site to maybe add one of them !!
That way it wouldnt seem like u were trying to help. Also of course i have questions about values im a new collector, im sure u were very green once in the militaria scene ^^ .
We all have to start somewhere and im glad there are willing people and sites like these that are willing to help, that way it saves alot of dissapointments and lost cash.

Killin' me....I started collecting when I was 9 years old, way before the interweb, and I collected because I liked the stuff. At a certain point in time you have got to be able to make the effort of due dilligence and
research this stuff. You are going to make mistakes and you will get burned; it happens, that's how we learn. The trick is to pay what you are comfortable with.

Be nice not to get burned wouldnt it, and i dont call loosing lots of money a learning curve, best avoided id say. Hence the point of these sites, for people that like and know about collecting. Also i like the stuff, i really dont get where your responses are leading ??, sniper has led me to others on the web, and from u i keep getting remarks like look on other sites for info, or just buy it if u like it. Kinda feels like im being shoved into a corner because of asking normal questions on a forum site. I got the idea on the first response.
Also no need for comments like "Killin' me....I started collecting when I was 9 years old, way before the interweb" Ok so u know your stuff, but please just because u were born 10 years before me dont patranize. Im here for help not a know it all response.
Also i am trying to research it hence the questions !!!!!
Ill delete the thread if it really bothers u juggerhead

Look, I am not patronizing you and I am not trying to be a a"know it all". I am trying to encourage you to make your own descisions about the items you collect. Do your own research. I learned what I know from endless afternoons at yard sales and flea markets or doing yard work for people who looked like they might be WW2 veterans. You have got to put your hands on real items to be able to make an opinion as to authenticity of any item, you do that enough and you'll get a feel for what you should look for in online sales. You have got to establish your own knowledge and experience base.

If you take what I am saying as criticism; at least take it as contructive criticism.

How can i hold the item if its on ebay !!, i understand what your saying but cmon , really there is a way to say it. Why couldnt you of posted this earlier, and please stop making out im taking it badly as a mistake on my part. Read what u wrote earlier. Its as encouraging as getting a cold.
Also how do i find american vets in the uk, as an american u could at least of said , " yup the marines used to write on there camos due to . . .. . . ." And as u did outside or yard work for them u could of helped as u probably have a bigger knowledge base than i do on your own countrys wars. I was only asking advice .
Also why have a forum if u have to establish your own knowledge and experience. You know it so u share the gift with the world. Why do i have to enduredue to a question if written camo covers from nam are a rariety !!!!!
Really Jug if each answer has to be look for veterans, go do yard work for them go all day around brik and brak sales buy lots of crap, fail numerous times to LEARN, Then i see no point of collecting in anything

    Oh good grief!
Everytime you see something you would like to purchase you post a photo or a link of the item in the forum and ask for advice as to it's price and or authenticity here are a few of your "greatest hits":

You have been given advice and research information time and time again by myself and others. Your latest question leads me to think that you are too preoccupied to research the items and are just looking for quick answers.

You have been given the information and guidence to help you become successful. Take that knowledge; go buy something and share it with us.

Any way ive taken up your response with the website. Im sure they dont allow abuse on here, nor threatening personal messages. So please leave my posts alone no one has asked u too keep posting abuse.

Just a note, ArchangelDM. When you type in ALL CAPS, it is the cyberspace equivalent to YELLING. Be judicious in your use of capital letters, please.

Perhaps, when you locate an item you are considering purchasing, do your own research and then present it, asking if your assessment is a good one. People don't don't mind helping you or providing advice, but they do get weary when someone repeatedly goes to the same waterhole without digging in it some themselves.

Hi can u prove i havent done any research, just wanted to know if u could as your making a false statement. Nowhere on this site does it say questions on items cannot be asked even price realted ones. Also the caps , when did we all go back to primary school, what is this jump on the noobie time. What a joke.
