Greetings to everyone. My grandfather Karl Driske fought during WW2 in the Kriegsmarines, I have little detail about his service other than some photographs and his service book that my father has. Is it possible for me to upload the photos and scanned images of his service book to this thread so people can have a look for me, I have tried uploading but I get a 403 error - must I get permission to upload?
Yes, you can. You are a new member and we require 5 posts and 5 days of membership before you can post. However, I can fix that for you. Give it another try, we'd like to see the photos.
Many thanks for allowing me to post the pictures - I will select some to add. Do I click. 1. "Attachments" 2. "Add Files" 3. "Select Files" 4. "Add my image from computer" 5. "upload file" Ok I have done it using the basic upload..
More images.. I have precious little detail, from what I can gather from my Dad my grandfather was in some sorta marine unit, they operated in converted merchant boats or PT boats - I have such scant information I cannot really piece much together at the moment.
Last pages from his service book and his release papers and a picture of my grandfathers family from WW1 period..
Great photos, Kevin. There are several around who have great knowledge of the KM and should be able to assist you. Thanks for posting.
Thanks LRusso I really do hope someone can help me out. Would it be OK to post the photos on the Atlantic Naval thread?
Just giving this post a small one off bump, just in case anyone who could help me hasn't seen this thread yet - apologies if this isn't allowed..
Hi Kevin, is it possible that he served at one of the "Hilfskreuzers"? Sorry read your thread at Axis H. cancel my question please. Baldrick“s advices are good and i would take them. Great pics that you have!
Im wondering if he later transferred to a Kusten Artillerie unit? because I saw at least one pic of him wearing the grey uniform which also had his Minesweepers badge on it. Oh and, contact the Uboat Archiv in Cuxhaven/Altenbruch, because they most assuredly will have something of his service if he was on a uboat at one time or another.
Yeah got some really good advice at Axis H forum. My one question is my grandfather had mentioned to my dad that he did some intensive training at some point later in his career (including long distance runs with gas masks on etc)and joined some sorta marine unit. Though I have no evidence and always wondered about the validity of his claims..
