Hello All, This post has took me way to long to sort out, but hey better late than never, its just a few of my photographs and finds from my last few visits to this battlefield, when you are there its easy to see why the terrain favoured the defenders Here are some scenery shots Forest trail, i bet it looks different at night And now the more interesting, garand bayonet and US ammunition (all ammunition is reburied where it is found) combination spanner, US I think
Great photos Pegasus, thanks for showing. Looks like a very worthwhile trip!, i'd say it was hard to see items on the forest floor with all the Pine needles about.
Nice bayo Neil! And nice pictures of the Talsperre. Well known spot. I stood there once with an empty canteen and it was 35 degrees celsius... and about 2 hours walking distance from the car. Oh man I wanted to swim.
Hi Martin, I am glad that you like the photos, you can cure them itchy feet by coming with us next time if you like
Hi Nick, yes its good walk to that spot, it took me a good few hours to get there (but well worth the effort)and the same not enough water, Jagdpather 44 droped me of and off I went, I could of spent a lot more time there but, knowing how long it took me to get there it was constantly on my mind how long the journey back was
Here are few more photographs, hope that you like them one of the locals track tooth of a 155mm 155mm lifting eyes German gasmask Now this is an interesting one, I think its part of a gramaphone Now this one I could not identifiy, triangular metal base with electrical wire coiled up around it and what appers to be a bakelite spoked wheel??, as you can see in photos the wheel is broken Mg belts, and gasmask filter
VERY NICE deer photo! Wow! In all those years and all the deers I saw almost never could I make a proper photo of it. That track tooth is used on many armoured vehicels, mostly used for the Sherman types. Gasmask is in nice conditions, you don't found them often in this condition. The gramaphone part is very interesting, I do not recognize it. For the bakelite object I have to see better pictures. Regards, Nick
Hi Again, I have done a bit more looking around on the net, and well have chage my mind on some of the items that I found at this fox hole on the edge of the forest, at first I thought that this ws an mg belt loader due to finding the belts of amo, but no I think its more likely to be part of a gramophone, there is a crank handle there but never got a photo of it This is a type of portable gramophone This is arm that contacts the recored (with the needle missing) This I think could be part of a speaker Philips seaker If it is it could either that they listened to a lot of music in that fox hole, or it was used to play mesages to US forces attacking the area, trying to get them to surender, I left it there, some always says to me "take it home and clean it up you never know what it is", we will have to have another look at this area this year hey The fox hole sorry about the shadows
