This unseen photo belonged to my late Father,i know there are some clever people on here so what information can you glean from the picture ? All i can see is that it has had its engines removed. Thanks in advance Mike.
Mike are you able to enlarge a scan of the tail unit as we may be able to ID the 262 unit by using the werke nummer under the tail partion
This is Me262 A-2a Werknummer 170070, delivered to E-Stelle Rechlin in August 1944 and coded 'E7 + 02'. It was used for bombsight trials. The aircraft suffered numerous faults and problems during its test career. Finally, it was coded 'white 12', fitted with Mk108 cannon, and transferred to I./JG 7 in April 1945, and Allied troops found it abandoned on the Hamburg-Bremen Autobahn, where your photo was taken. Fuller details of the aircraft, and another photo taken on the same spot, can be found in Dan O'Connell's excellent book 'Me262 - The Production Log 1941-1945' ( Classic Pubs, 2005 ).
understand that the number white 12 in it's position forward was not the standard for any of the jets in JG 7 this would of been the norm if it had been placed in front of the national insignia. Dan lives just over the hump from me as a side note
