The thing about Ike Ash Trays is that he gave them out to many heads of State and other importants. Its not like he was trying to be a cheapskate-it was just his normal "thing" to send. BTW, I saw one of these up for auction a number of years ago, it sold at Sothebys? or Butterfield??? for about $50,000. Not bad for an Ashtray. Oh and, those ashtrays were not cheaply made massed produced pieces of junk. As an aside, the CC Museum of Sci and Hist had one of those Ike Ashtrays in their history collections. Even they knew to keep this baby locked up in a safe. I got to see it, but not tough it even though I DID get to see and touch Nolan Ryans actual contract that made him the first baseball player to get $1 million smackeroons for a yea of playing Baseball. I also gut to handle his Goblets, or whateverthehecktheyareproperlycalled? baseballs autographed by him and quite a few other things. These things were on loan to said museum for a display that was to last I think about 6 months? I got to catalog the items but, I never got the chance to see them on display. This was because they removed the History Collections Curator-at no loss of pay, to a lower position Why? I dunno? i THINK it was a senior curators thing? Anyway, they hired this young squirt and placed him there-and THAT was a major mistake. Anyway, all the volunteers and I who worked for Don, quit this little dork. I heard that he was later fired for stealing from the collections.
That has to be expected though. The comparisons will always be there. Hopefully the newlyweds will have some time away from the paparazzi from time to time.
just looked for the first time today at a photo of kate middleton - while she isn't hideous - and he's mad, german and got the ginger gene, he could probably still do better i think as a result of being unfeasibly rich. Maybe she's wonderful - time will tell i'm sure
It has just been revealed here in England that the wedding will take place exactly 66 years to the day after Hitler married Eva Braun.
well spotted that man! and interesting to compare how much the two ceremonies cost their respective countries
This has been a good thread. Has longer legs than predicted. I actually think I will start watching it @ 5 AM here. Will have to leave for work by 730. I'm an early bird anyway. CBC has the hot Heather Hiscock ( cougarrrr ) covering the event. There is a buzz here for sure. This event may cost a lot, but there will be a lot of real business created. Then there is the elephant in the room. That is: would any terrorist dare to do a dastardly deed?...Or maybe the carriage horses will get spooked by Catherine's headless ghost and bolt. Horses get spooked pretty easy.
I decided to skip out on it, my catching up on some sleep is more important. Anyway, I wish them a long, productive and happy Marriage.
sorry I am out working and riding the bike, much success to them and to good ol Britain, time is going to tell if the two can make a difference in the lives of the people in the future age. so do you think the two fledglings will be covered well by the military as per protection during the fun carriage ride ?
I think Australia gave an Ipod aswell...amongst other things...the thing that makes the present Australian is that its full of Australian Bands and songs...so its an "Australian Ipod" - Maybe the American Ipod is the same...
Here in Baton Rouge there's this English pub called "The Londoner". Never been there myself, but shortly they will be the place to be. They open the doors at 0430 in the AM and will be the center of festivities concerning the wedding. Lots of British ex-pats from the region are expected to be there. A breakfast buffet will be available, along with the usual ales and lagers on tap to wash them down. I thought about getting out there for the experience, but quickly came to my senses. I have decided to watch the re-runs in the French Quarter tomorrow night.
I don't mean to bring this thing down or show deliberatle bad taste...but last night i heard that the Royal Wedding would be a MASSIVE terrorist target...They Police say they have thought of everything...but we all know they can't stop Suicide Bombers standing in the crowd..possibly more than one...My question would be...What do other people think the odds are of something happening?
) Heh heh, maybe its a U.K. thing?? No telling what is on the Ami version? maybe the Pres has good taste in music and had a lot of classic Jazz put on it? ;-))
Hadnt really thought about that but, I think the Brits will be doing an A-1 job of it-like they did in that Tunnel incident of a few years back. I do have lots of faith in Brit security ;-))
I would expect most terrorists would have the same idea the Irish groups did after Mounbatten - leave the Royals alone, it's not worth the negative press. Not to say they might not throw in some false alarms to mess with the event. Wait until the olympics though, that's another story.
