Anyone have any good suggestions specifically about the Northern Invasion near the Gothic line? Anything about the mainland invasion would do also. My grandfather may have been involved with northern campaign, just want to learn more about the battles that took place. Thanks! Aaron
Hi, Check out the books by a canadian author called Zuehlke, ihe has about 4 or 5 books written about the Italian campaign, including one called "The Gothic Line". Cheers!
Weird. I posted here earlier this afternoon. Musta hit "Reply to Thread" a second time by accident. Hate it when I do that. Check out "The Day of Battle" by Rick Atkinson (and "An Army at Dawn" is a must for those interested in N. Africa). Also take a gander at "The Rock at Anzio" by Whittlock, follows the 45 Inf. Div from Sicily through VE Day, including Italy. A couple of others, "The Last Ridge", "The Devil's Brigade", and "We Led The Way: Darby's Rangers" deal with some very special groups of men (10th Mountain Division, First Special Service Brigade, and Darby's Rangers) who went above and beyond to kick the Germans off of their comfy hilltops (gotta say, FSSB is possibly my favorite group of misfits of the three!).
Thank you both for the suggestions. Right after my initial post, I found out about "The Day of Battle" by Rick Atkinson. I finished reading it about 2 months ago and loved it. I'm reading the "An Army at Dawn" right now. I'll check out the other suggested books you both recommended.
By the way, Rick's final book in the trilogy is expected to be published in 2013. http://www.liberationtrilogy.com/ http://www.historynet.com/interview-with-historian-rick-atkinson.htm Dave
