Matrix Games picked up and continued the Close Combat series. The new and old games are listed here(only the new ones are available for purchase from Matrix): http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/
Thanks for the info Takao. I had an ear to ear grin as I read through the site. Had no idea the series had continued. Thought it was completed in 2000.
Then this should make that smile even larger. Titles not on the list: Close Combat: Panther in the Fog http://www.matrixgames.com/products/433/details/Close.Combat:.Panthers.in.the.Fog Close Combat: Gateway to Caen http://www.matrixgames.com/products/506/details/Close.Combat.-.Gateway.to.Caen and finally a new outing set to release sometime in 2015... Close Combat: The Bloody First This was to have released in 2014, but Slitherine/Matrix ran into problems with the Unity game engine, and they are taking longer than expected to work out.
If you are looking for something abit more realistic and difficult that is a grand strategy game for ww2. No pretty graphics or videos, just pure strategy for a country level. Hearts of Iron 3 is the way to go, becareful it is hard and most people give up because they lose.
For WWI I recall Soldiers (at least I think that was the title) by SPI as being a very good tactical game. Did make me think when I "won" one of the scenarios and realised I had well under half my forces left....
I found a free flash game a couple of years ago that I felt was an intense game it was called Warfare 1917. Despite it being a common flash game it's actually pretty well known and intense. Not long after the developers came out with Warfare 1917, a year or so later they came out with Warfare 1944 this time set in World War Two. The first game is a little more simplistic, the second one is a little more involved because they complicated it a little more than the first one.
