    Thanks, Jeff.

This was the scene near the village of Clinchamps which is a few miles west of Trun.

These vehicles were probably making their way towards what would become the Falaise Gap in 1944, and could possibly have been attacked by Typhoons.

Have you tried looking for relics at those places?

We had a look in one of the fields, in the right of my Clinchamps photo, which had crops in it that were just sprouting. We never actually walk in to the fields, so as not to damage any of the farmers crops, but there are still relics to be found along the edges.

It was late in the day when we got there so we didn't have time to have a real good scan around. I however did find a spent 7.92 cartridge and an as yet uncleaned and unidentified compressed steel cylinder.

The month of June is not the best time of year to be looking for relics in fields as most crops are almost fully grown, making it difficult to find anything.

I understand, I can imagine farmers getting fed up with treasure hunters trampling their crops. Let us know when the cylinder is cleaned.

A salute to you for all of these photos. I especially like the one with the debris in the road near Village of Clinchamps. My father was an engineer and he had to clear roads like that - it gives me a small idea of what he was looking at.

All the photos are excellent. I like seeing where we've been and the today photos to see that something did arise out of the destruction.

    Thanks for sharing.

Those are some great pictures; I need to get in the garage and find mine of Normandy, Bastogne, and other places I have been in Europe.

    Thanks, Nick.

The Pointe-du-Hoc comparison is a favourite of mine and one which I was determined to get - even if it did mean clambering over fencing! ;)

    Hello,
Very nice thread. I'm also fascinated by photographic comparisons between then and now. Very nice research. Congratulations and thank you.
I have too few comparisons between 1945 and 2012 on the side of Rittershoffen-Hatten, Alsace (Operation Nordwind - Battle of Hatten-Rittershoffen)
    Regards,
    Eric
